I believe this is an extremely valuable way to ease into a new field or profession. I have always been one that welcomes the opportunity to take a person under the wing and mentor whenever possible. Noone can know the landscape and lay of the land better than someone who has experienced it. They can also help you avoid the landmines that can be detrimental early into a new situation.

I have found remember people are people. They come with a wealth of experience. Tapping into what the person brings and remember that your team’s industry knowledge and your external experience will be a winning combination. It is when you shut out the team’s voice that you lose their trust. As soon as you are the smartest person in the room and can’t learn from a single person is the moment you stop growing. You either need to assess your knowledge or the room you are in. I have never been the smartest person in the room in all areas. I take in as much as I can.
