How can you develop software testing skills and succeed?

Learning the basics of any skill is just as important as learning each letter of the alphabet. We had to know what each letter sounded like to form 2 letter words then 3 letters and then whole sentences. So learning the basics will help make sense of the scope, approach, and decision-making process that comes with testing. My recommendation to ensure you get a grasp of the basics in the quickest, most confident way is to engage in what I call 'Structured learning'. Enroll in an extensive training/boot camp that spans at least several weeks. Why do I recommend this? You have a syllabus you are committing to for a given period, you have dedicated support to guide you through your learning and you have people that will hold you accountable.

More practical way is, ?? Read and understand testing concepts specially following "istqb ctfl" syllbus ??Create a mind map how you practically applied them in your working enviornment ??Why need testing, testing concepts, test types, levels, test design techniques, test life cycle, test management, test outcomes, best practices, tools are major areas to study. ?? Learn programming concepts, principles. ??Not only QA but unit testing, development frameworks, development life cycle, dev QA collaborations also good to learn. ??Importance of test Automation, Advantages of Automation, Automation strategies, test pyramid and how it works also important. ??Learning version controlling, CI/CD concepts, database architectures also a must.

Before diving into preparing test cases and other thing you must know the basic business process flow knowledge of what your going to do. Put yourself in user point of view and think what kind of situations may occur while doing testing and how they will handle those things and all. In this way you can improve your scenario and test case coverage ,by doing this and using right testing types and testing techniques you can improve the product quality and also your thinking ability.ask yourself a lot of questions and try to find answers for those. Improve your knowledge by keep on learning new things and update your skills by practice's. In this way you can achieve in your goal

It's not applicable only for tester, it's also applicable for developers. Many fail to understand that testing skills are mandatory to build the "Right product". STLC (Software Testing Life Cycle), is part of SDLC. You have to understand, Whats the purpose of doing testing? Is it to build the right product or product right!

Beyond the obvious, learn new skills, tools and practicing your craft, what I learned is not technical at all. Professional software testers need special soft skills to succeed on the job. I learned the following: Effective diplomacy and communication Perseverance and Passion Curiosity and creativity

Finding bugs or automating software alone doesn't make you a good QA. As a manual tester, you need to understand how to achieve comprehensive test coverage through test planning, follow best practices during testing, and learn how to create proper documentation, among other skills. Consider joining mentoring programs or consulting industry experts if you don't have a senior QA to guide you. In automation, creating projects for self-learning is essential, but it's crucial to learn how to use organizational custom frameworks. Having a good grasp of programming is necessary for this. Following coding best practices eases everyone's life.

More than practice,reviewing your results with an experienced peer makes a lot of difference to understand real expectations from QA Leads!

Practice critical thinking and analytical skills throughout your life. Test the world around you and the systems or applications there in. For example reading a blog or article check for errors, confirm sources do links work? Your out shopping check the systems/applications you interact with: The check out till, menu in an elevator, self service system in a restaurant. See the issues and defects? Seek the assessment of quality as a life long pursuit not just something you do in your 9 to 5. Challenge logical fallacies and compromised thinking patterns: "it's always done that" "they've tested it so it will be fine" "they are a well known so their product will be great".

Begin by selecting an application or website, preferably one you're unfamiliar with, and designing comprehensive test cases that cover different functional aspects and use cases. Once you get and idea of things such as "Boundary Value Analysis" "Decision Table Testing" it is worth to get programming skills. This is not only provide you self evolment as a QA, it also give you an idea how software works under the hood. What challenges software engineers might face and how to overcome it. I strongly recommend to do this step to evolve your software testing skill. You will become more valuable part of the team in no time.

Expanding skills in this ever evolving world is the most crucial need of the hour. Having a good understanding of the SDLC flow, being up to date with the new technologies, understanding the workflow and architecture of the product are key steps that one can follow to deliver a better product. Expanding knowledge is a cakewalk if you are focused on it! There are lots of FREE learning portals available in the market now. Find the right video/blog to expand your technical expertise.

YouTube, workshops, & a ton of great software testing websites have made it easier to expand your knowledge of testing. My worry here is not that testers don't know where to go to get knowledge, but in understanding the resources out there and not getting overwhelmed with 'too much information'. A lot of testers start courses, quit midway, & jump to the next shining thing with no in-depth knowledge gained. How do you ensure you are not lost in the sea of information that is freely accessible over the internet? 1. Develop a learning schedule: Outline 3-4 things to learn and set timelines for each 2. Search for resources tailored to your skill level: beginner, intermediate, advanced level. 3. Invest in your learning and reach out for help.

Learning software testing involves hands-on experience, involving real-world scenarios and challenges. This approach helps testers develop problem-solving skills, understand application behavior, and adapt testing strategies to diverse contexts. Each bug encountered and test case designed contributes to the development of expertise. Learning by doing is the most effective method and a continuous journey of discovery and improvement in the software testing world. Theory and classroom learning provide a foundation, but mastery lies in hands-on practice.

Especially in testing, evidence, and documentation is a critical parts. If there is no evidence, it's considered as "Not Done/Tested". Documentation of test results is as important as testing the deliverable. Good documentation skills can be achieved if you can improve your soft skills.

Software testing and QA can be learned and mastered if you follow these steps. 1. Be clear with your requirements 2. Think as your user/customer 3. Think all the possibilities of use cases 4. Documentation is mandatory 5. Do a full cycle test to ensure after bugs fixed by the developer. 6. Spot the exact case when the bug arise. For example if an app crash in the mid when you try inserting an empty value, mention that exact case. 7. Try to understand the problem. In the above example you can understand that the app crashes due to null value passed. 8. If you find the reason mention it in the document. So that the developer will fix it easily. The major goal of a tester should be delivering a bug free product, not to spot the dev's error.
