Research design and methods are often very heavily inter-linked with your research question, and often your funding (some grants and funding might have certain guidelines or some research designs are cost-heavy so will need adequate funding) It is important to consider your topic, question and design as a whole, ensuring they complement and work with each other. This may also tie in what makes your research unique, such as employing a new research design. It is also important to clearly record and communicate your research design and method, as being able to replicate experiments is an important part of research.
