Completion rates. Understanding expectations? Observational techniques or workshops. Understanding discoverability? Observational or tree testing. Simplified examples. Define the goal!

IMO Learn the basics and Keep up with trends. However all options are valuable, a strong foundation in core data-driven testing principles (metrics, analysis, etc.) is essential. In contrast to this, I'd say: Sample ALL tools. Since AI tools rely deeply on learning models, their accuracy may wildly vary on the dataset they're trained on. Not all tools are equally equipped to handle the entire process of research or validation. They often specialize in a very specific aspect of the broader process. Keep a watch out for new tools (that are crowding the market everyday) and try the ones that seem interesting to you. Do a quick pilot and check its efficacy out. This way, you know "that one tool that does that specific part of the job" better than another.

Depending on how large your organization is, they are probably using a variety of tools already to track user behavior on the site, SEO, funnel drop-off, etc. Find the gaps in the existing data and fill those gaps. Typically, the analytics answer the "what", (people drop off at this point in the flow), but not the "why". Knowing why helps you invest in solutions that actually solve problems and save money.

Tools that are too complicated to learn will create problems, distract people from tasks at hand, and cost money. In my experience the best tools are a pencil and a notepad.

In the today's world where tools change every other year, being tool agnostic is necessary and an active effort to be updated with latest cutting edge tools as well as testing methods is essential. I think one of the most important point in usability tests is being careful of avoiding participants form becoming biased, we can easily make our participants biased by our scenarios, questions, way of inviting them or many other details. And this can decreases our test datas.
