I agree with the basic principles of defining a vision and utilizing the SMART framework will produce results; however, the confines of a results oriented vision may limit the capacity of others to dream. Visionaries dare others to dream, in color. Brainstorming and establishing stretch goals are precursors to the visioning process and an opportunity to obtain buy-in from all stakeholders. Visionary leaders invite and celebrate ideas that come from the team and they [visionary leaders] are willing to adopt and cultivate the recommended direction without boundaries. Eventually data to support the vision amd direction will come once key performance indicators are established, so I caution against adopting the SMART framework too early.

I believe if you have the ability to listen you are way ahead already. This world is so distracting, the art of conversation and real connection has been lost but the folks who can still manage that way are real gems. If you can listen to what others need, how they like to be coached and take real action on that, the results will be amazing. If you approach every situation with an already figured out plan, you might be a good manipulator but you’re not a true leader of people. That approach is always a short term win and long term problem.

It involves a balance between being directive when needed and empowering team members to foster innovation and collaboration. In facility management leadership, it's crucial to be a guide rather than just a decision-maker between the customer and the team. True leadership involves asking the right questions and valuing active listening. It's all about teamwork, communication, and making choices that consider everyone's perspective.

I follow an adaptive leadership style and continue to seek new and innovative ways to solve problems, master new skills, and view disruption as a challenge rather than a threat — all needed to prevail through uncertain times. I kept on improving business processes and changing leadership style when necessary. Instead of resisting change, I embrace it as an opportunity for growth and continuous improvement.

I provide positive feedback by appreciating the time and effort in their work. Of course, the quality of the output is a direct reflection of their dedication. Subsequent reviews should acknowledge a marked improvement in their presentation skills and fulfillment of their goals. My negative feedback would focus on identifying areas of improvement. It is critical to double-check the assigned work for accuracy. Also provide areas of improvement especially related to time management. The absence of timeliness in the workplace is quite obvious which is affecting the team’s productivity.

Seeking feedback will help you to refresh your mindset, way of thinking, and may lead you to know your strength or weaknesses, seeking a monthly, quarterly, or annually feedback is required as it will give you the opportunity to be best version of your self. As a leader you can seek feedback from your team, workmates, or your manager. You have to consider the positive feedbacks to keep going on track, on the other hand, you have to accept the other point of view (negative feedback), listen well & thinking about those comments positively without considering this personally. Then work on yourself and select a clear area of development as this could affect your personal, behavior, or your work attitude.

My number one goal in 2024 is to find a mentor for this specific part of my career. Mentors have shaped my life, I’ve always had someone who was ahead of me on the journey, would be very honest with me and who I really respected. The key in my mind is finding someone who will be tough on you when you need it. Open and honest helps you grow faster.

You shall keep in mind that your team is always looking at you and evaluating everything you say and do. In my experience, your example is the standard your team will follow; thus you better treat them the same way you’d like to be treated.
