Absolutely. Like bringing up children . Children normally don’t just do what parents say. They observe the parents and then follow the path set by the parents. Therefore , it is also equally important for the mentor to have the credibility and track record of having implemented the feedback in his/her own life or career .

In some societies disagreeing with the seniors (mentors are usually seniors) is frowned upon. In such cases, the mentee may seemingly agree with the mentor & show positivity about the feedback. But then a few weeks later we find that the mentee didn’t take any action and give excuses when asked. I find that a more effective approach is to observe the mentees’ actions. If they don’t appear to have changed their behavior demonstrably through their actions, most likely the feedback wasn’t effective. This approach works across the human population whether direct or indirect. Always be observing what the mentees do. Their actions are the best feedback for your mentoring inputs.
