This prevents the sudden exposure of the powder to a high concentration of oxygen in the air, slowing down the combustion process. Mass flow controllers can regulate the gas flow, minimizing surface passivation to maintain the catalyst's activity. The mentioned approach will be more useful for scaled-up synthetic methodologies.

Do the same things lots of times at a smaller scale. Sure it's expensive but so is a new chemical plant. It won't rule out the intrinsic process risks, but from a broad view smaller explosions are more manageable.
