Before you design your curriculum, you need to identify the learning outcomes that you want your students to achieve in relation to patient-centered care. These outcomes should be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound, and aligned with the national standards and competencies for nursing practice. For example, you might want your students to demonstrate effective communication skills with patients and families from diverse backgrounds and situations, apply ethical and legal principles to respect patients' rights, autonomy, and confidentiality, assess and respond to patients' physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs and preferences, collaborate with other health professionals and community resources to provide coordinated and integrated care, as well as evaluate and reflect on their own practice and performance in relation to patient-centered care.
