I found that defining project outcomes and client requirements are the two main factors which decide a structural engineer ability to control the cost in design. In short after detail field investigation in field,engineering studies and then detail planning the crucial issue which probably decides how to build a project in cost and time, is risk identification, planning for risk handling, proper provision of risk management in implementation planning. In case of India it is probably required to be build up in tender and latter in contract document. It is tricky but to succeed it is inevitable.

Com base no conhecimento que adquiri em mais de 20 anos a realizar projetos de arquitetura e engenharia, aliados a uma mais recente experiência em execu??o de obras, a base para se obter alguma economia nos projetos, está essencialmente na escolha das solu??es construtivas, materiais de acabamento e tipologia de estrutura resistente. Hoje recorre-se demasiado a materiais especiais de custo elevado e que facilmente se assemelham a outros tradicionais tanto no aspeto quanto na fun??o. E isso tem um custo. Por exemplo: é razoável recorrer-se a pedra de 15cm de espessura para revestir degraus já realizados em bet?o? N?o, uma forra de 3cm bem aplicada transmite o mesmo aspeto e garante a mesma fun??o e custa 4x menos…

I have found the best way to save money on projects is to go fast. If the team has less time to churn on decision making, they will be more effective and thus cheaper. This can also be accomplished with a rigid, quick, and well known decision making structure.
