The second hurdle is to get the major stakeholder into your boat. Involving your stakeholders right from the beginning will avoid surprises and frustration down the road.

In addition to all the points it is important the project plan is clear to all team members.This is more critical if multiple teams are involved and the final product to be delivered requires critical integration. It is often teams are not clear on the overall project plan and then they miss on their deliverables timelines.
