How can you deliver motivational speeches to remote employees?

Motivation comes from within. We can however provide the spark to ignite the flame by being genuine. Audiences tend to view scripted presentations as disingenuous, a constructed narrative. By all means have guidelines, but be yourself. Showing my own vulnerability and being genuine about it has worked for the last 9 years - I had depression and was suicidal as our country's head of crisis negotiators - and I keep it raw and real. It is about the audience, not the presenter, continually think of that when igniting an audience. People want to hear relatable material so present as though you are talking to just one person, a friend. HOT - honest, open, to the point. Finish your presentation by inspiring your audience to take the first step!

Motivational speeches should be delivered on a personal basis at the right time. We are not designing punchlines or advertising contents for the masses. Appropriate motivations ideally must come straight from your heart with sincerity after understanding thoroughly the needs of the other party. Otherwise, some motivational speeches may backfire and view as unnecessary. There is also a distinction between motivational and inspirational speeches. Assess the needs of the other party whether to inspire or to motivate can guarantee better results.

As a motivational speaker you have to acknowledge that you are an orchestrator of energy. Your ability open the space, move the room, and ignite action is the core job of a masterful motivational speaker. On top of this comes the way you deliver your message. Are you aligned with your audience, do you know how to make people receptive to your message, do you know how to speak to the heart and not just the mind? Mastering the What's, How's, and Why's is core to any impactful speech! There is structure but there is also emotion, there are techniques, but there is also connection. Learn how to use your What's, How's, and Why's to move people through a journey and finally to action. Help them see the world in a different way.

I think working remotely can be lonely (but freeing) and acknowledging this through vulnerability and connection are important. Having a quick but meaningful ice breaker where everyone contributes can go a long way in people being engaged, staying connected and being motivated to meet for the next call.

Select the appropriate platform. The platform on which you deliver your motivational speech can significantly impact how you communicate and interact with your remote audience. You want to select a platform that is dependable, user-friendly, and compatible with the devices and internet connections of your target audience. You should also select a platform that allows you to use various features to enhance your speech and engage your audience, such as video, audio, chat, polls, or quizzes. Before making a decision, you can test various platforms and weigh their advantages and disadvantages.

Also, traditional means of marketing can be effective if they're likely to reach your target audience.

Platforms and Audiences I find working with Zoom is the most useful and reliable platform for my purposes. I like to be able to have in-person and on-line breakout rooms for smaller group discussions. Teams is my second goto, but the decision comes down to the skills and preferences of the audience. The only time I insist upon Zoom is when I need a HIPAA certificate. Another thing to consider is, regardless of how well your platform works, if your audience does not connect with the message, you will fail. You need to pull your pool of attendees from the well of relateability. You need to know who and where these people are or work with people who can pull a compatible audience to you. You can pitch to an audience some, but be genuine.

If possible, choose a platform that fosters conversation and feedback. The more you encourage participation and make room for others to speak up, the more people will engage.

Use two computer monitors. One monitor to see yourself as you present, and some of the audience so you become fully aware that you are talking to real people. The second monitor has your notes. Do not read off a script, just have short words to remind you of what to say. This will make it sound authentic.

Two styles - Aided or unaided speeches. Aided speeches - you have slides, photos and video clips. Basically an anchor that help you to convey your message in a richer way. Ensure you are very very very familiar with each page / slide / media. Have backups and backups for the backups. Avoid relying on WIFI connection. It's 99% guaranteed to fail on the day! Unaided speeches - it's all about your body language, gestures, and presence. This is the mastery level and requires self-disciplined practice and rehearsals. One practice I've found to be really powerful in the preparation process is to begin preparing the moment you know you'll be speaking. I’ve given over 200 online workshops and presentations in the past 3 years and I always hear I’m the only presenter who encourages participants make connections in the chat WHILE I’m speaking. People on online platforms will keep a tab open in listen only while “multitasking”, however when engagement not only with the presenter but with others in the chat is encouraged they tell me, “I couldn’t multitask”. My takeaway is when I don’t make “my” speech about me and encourage others to actively participate it fosters so much more engagement and my message sticks. I also encourage interaction - I stand in front of a whiteboard which I use as necessary and ask the audience to unmute and ask their question aloud as though we are in the same room. Having them ask their questions aloud means the presentation flows and I don't have to read what is in the chat box.

Using visuals is key. Not everyone is auditory. Many people are visual or kinaesthetic. Use less words and more pictures. Remember, a picture speaks a thousand words and everyone can see something different in a way even though your story uses the same words. Always remember that your visuals should be there to guide your story! Don't read from a screen, but use the screen as your imaginary counterpart who helps you visualize the story with impact!

Stand and deliver. Your vibe and flow will be more natural and the audience will feel the difference. Power points can still work. Keep them simple

Please make simple and clean PowerPoints, unless it’s a ve try specific training! Long endless paragraphs are intimidating, and if you read them out loud, incredibly monotonous.

The greatest benefit to using a virtual platform other than the ability to reach remote audiences, is the ability to easily incorporate all the wonderful tech we have at our fingertips. Making use of screen sharing to incorporate visuals and audio, allows a presenter to add depth and creativity to a speech. Not only can this be used to enhance audience engagement but you can emphasise any vital points of your presentation with the right audio/visuals at the right time. Just be sure to balance the use of these techniques out. These digital functions are tools and as such should be secondary to your material and audience.

I learned very early during Covid, to use visuals OFF screen (i.e. - don't SHARE your screen). I use a TV screen behind me as if I am in the room with a traditional Power Point, clicking to change screens. Show yourself (personality, impact, engagement) on the virtual screen. Background images support what you are saying without requiring the audience to read what's on the screen. Use big, bold, colorful images to bring emotional responses. Make sure these are connected with what you are saying. Use the RIGHT amount of image screen changes. Too many are distracting. Too few - boring. Mix up images and colors. Make sure they evoke the emotions you are going for in your speech. Visual changes will help keep the audience alert.

Believe in yourself! Motivational speaking is about managing the energy in the room. Your energy is key! People feel your passion when you speak. Be inspiring and confident! Walk the talk! People will decide to listen to you based on what they feel about about you! Remember, people don't remember what you say, people remember how you make them feel!

Having presented online more than I can count, both domestically and globally, people love to have a person connection. I follow-up any keynote - live or virtual with a follow-up video to the organizers : thank you, next steps, pictures, etc. And I include follow-up capsules hidden on youtube for the participants.

It's important to build relationship beyond the initial talk. This will allow you to be a valuable resource when needed. I end every talk with an invitation to connect by joining my email community. I also let them know when they email me, I will respond to them.

People will feel your intention. Is what you say based on your idea or expectation that people want to hear, or is it based on your desire to share because the benefits to others. So every motivational speech starts from within.

Motivation means, Motive for Action! Remember in all situations be ready and able to provide this, instantly from a distance and equally at the drop of a hat, which, counter intuitively, takes a lot of time and preparation! So four things really. Primarily, take the time to research your audience, which has been said elsewhere in this space. so I'll focus on the other three - Use your research to' 1 Foster Genuine Connections: Cultivate deep, authentic connection, making each interaction personal and empathetic. 2 Master the remote presentation,topic and technological tools, create competent, engaging, interactive experiences. Not cold remote presentations. 3 Inspire with Clear calls to action that make NOW the time to ACT

Utilise engagement tools such as polls, quizzes etc. Don't spend the entire time speaking at them. Create opportunities for them to get involved.
