Each WMS should create its lot, based on certain characteristics of items. These characteristics could be batch no., expiry date, Manuf. date, price, or any other important field. Change in any single field should create a new lot, and similarly, if all these fields of any item are the same, then all of that quantity should come under the same lot. This will make it easy to track lots, and if we could filter items based on any characteristics field, it would make it even better.

Batch /serial & IMEI numbers are easiest and smoothest way to customize in WMS in term of lot tracking as they are also connected in back end with certificates of analysis/Manufacturing reports and various regulatory authorities like customs and Pta database (mobile and other devices).

A lot number: this field should accommodate alphanumeric characters to account for different lot numbering conventions. Ensure that the lot number is directly linked to the corresponding product records.
