For this to work, it seems that the first step is to try and understand the world your partners live in, and the problems they are trying to solve. Once this is understood, then you can look to see how what you do can contribute to adding value for them. This of course works both ways around, and key to this is trust. If you can't build that then you won't be able to build, or sustain, a long term partnership. This takes time and effort to do, and consistency of people and approach, and is not always easy. It requires flexibility and an open mind but seems well worth it if true partnership is what you're looking for.

This is a rewarding way of, as a non- clinical professional, working with clinicians who rightly have a medical perspective on their patients. Have clear vision and strategies to achieve their vision and align it with their prospective partners, before signing a partnership agreement. Many organisations have lost their vision or have it altered after collaborating with others.

Communication is key! Slack is a great way to keep in touch, but can also become burdensome. Ask your partner for preferred methods of communication, and once those are established, be proactive about communicating within those channels. Don't underestimate the value of having a recurring call on the calendar! There is also a lot of value in having your partner's cell phone number to establish a closer relationship and a level of dedication to your partner. However, nothing builds trust like lightning-fast response times to messages and inquiries.

In my experience, as partners collaborate on opportunities, disputes do happen at various levels. It is very important to have a dispute resolution committee, agreed set of framework and guidelines to resolve and rules of engagement discussed and agreed upfront and in a transparent way. This builds trust, a foundation needed to effectively communicate and collaborate.

Bank on having different points of view and at the beginning, begin each meeting with each partner trying to outline the other partner's point of view and goals going forward. Si hay una asociación es porque también reconocemos que los socios tienen fortalezas que al combinarlas con la de todos los socios hara una asociación muy robusta y rapida. Hay que idntificar las fortalezas y dejar que cada quien en su fortaleza realice su comtribución, un poco de humildad y otro poco de sabiduria, hacen que las cosas caminen mas rapido. Y sobre todo reconocer cual es el objetivo por el que cada quien esta alli formando parte de la asociación, todos son diferentes pero todos son valiosos aportando.

The end goals may be different but it doesn't mean two people cannot walk the same path for some distance. Find the commonalities, implement them and as these are experienced, be open to new ideas as they rise during this ride. It is possible that one of the partners may gradually become more amenable to the other's goals or perhaps both (or all) of them will decide on a new goal altogether. Walking together is most important - decision to go separate ways can be taken anyday. So, be together, think together, plan out things together and then, if the differences still persist, walk your separate paths.
