In order to create a consistent and coherent IA, it is important to adhere to some basic principles. This includes how you group and arrange the information into categories and subcategories based on user needs and content characteristics. Additionally, labeling the information with clear, concise, and meaningful words that match user language and expectations is essential. Navigation should provide users with ways to move and explore the information using menus, breadcrumbs, links, buttons, and other elements that indicate the location, direction, and feedback. Test the information architecture you have created on different platforms and devices to check and address any inconsistencies or usability issues that may arise. This is because we have different platforms and screen sizes and it is crucial to ensure that the navigation and layout adapts well to the unique characteristics of each platform. Secondly, documenting your information architecture in a detailed way while including the rationale behind the design decisions and guidelines helps in creating a scalable information architecture. This documentation will serve as a reference in the future when there is need for an update to be made and also ensures continuity and collaboration from every team member that wants to make changes.

Think basic first. When working on IA that you know will be scaled with time, think of the core features that drive the product and scale it back to its bare bones. Those bare pillars you get to are the foundation of your product. From there, group features to its corresponding pillar and with time just add on and scale as needed. It's like a tree growing more branches, or adding more floors, rooms, and doors to a house.
