If 100% volunteers with very little employer support this is difficult to do. Employees who typically volunteer have similar life experiences to the topic so your diversity can be limited to those who have a passion for the topic. My former employer tried to require executives to support DEI programs with some success but a lot of check the box with no real business changes. Additionally all time spent was volunteer time on your own time, the result was that mostly salaried populations would attend events and volunteer for the boards or diversity councils. The hourly population could attend on their lunch breaks only. Employer support for attendance would have helped for inclusion.

Have been Project Lead for my current organization since last few years during CSR events, the volunteers which am working with are not selected as they are not volunteers if selected.
