How can you create high-quality construction drawings for large-scale infrastructure projects?

We need to start thinking less traditionally in our approaches to drawing production. We’re all doing things differently and there’s no reason why we can’t introduce standardised approaches at times. Defining workflows for repeatable tasks will guide us to where we can automate these tasks. Automation won’t be applicable everywhere, it won’t always be affordable or provide an ROI everytime, but where it does, it will drive efficiency, improve margin, reduce risk through standards compliance and so much more.

Do we still really need construction drawings? ?? If our models are good enough and software and devices portable enough we can view and interrogate any part of the model we want.

Plan the Drawing Set: 1) understand the working area and environment. 2) Work as per IS norms. 3) Use accurate measurement of survey. 4) Use technique Software like AutoCAD, GIS etc.,

For large projects where the number of drawings is large and it is not possible to read them all at once, this software helps to combine these drawings on a single platform and is easy to use.

Then it needs to be reviewed by a third-person who gives comments about their observations. These comments are then resolved by the original drawing creator. This process repeats till there are no more comments and the drawing is ready to be issued.

As always, difficulties of the project and huge amount of drawings as a result must be operated by separate group of people, responsible for updates of revisions and collection of changes. It has to be cloud based storage for the drawings. In addition BIM software must be deeply integrated (3D models). I have never seen it, but in my imagination the best way would be 3D interface of all project scope divided on parts (areas), where more detailed information can be found and record.

Data Sharing & Interface- / Stakeholder Management: Over the years projects became more and more complex and luckily the tools at our disposal became more sophisticated. Since huge data has to be exchanged, tracked, recorded, analyzed, aligned, updated, almost constantly the implementation of a Common Data Environment CDE at the very beginning of the project is of upmost importance. The CDE must be integrated with document management systems, interface agreement & interface point definition, client & stakeholder requirements management combined with BIM/GIS capabilities and all on digital basis realtime linked. Ensuring drawing updates getting logged and simultaneously revised with ongoing change referencing until final IFC status.
