One thing I've found helpful, is to arrange the vocals. Melody comes in firstfor four bars, alto four bars as well then soprano for last 8bars to create a crescendo feeling. Another thing to consider is do the harmonic lines have to do the exact same steps I.e 3rd and 5th with the exact same words? Perhaps I could try to have one harmonic line doing alto rhythm, and the soprano doing legato ad libs with a few select words from the main melody phases, while the melody stays the same.
