RStudio cloud is run by Posit, a public-benefit corporation so of course it might seem deprived of computational power and usage TAT. But we can now directly draw data from Bigquery and run R in Jupyter hosted on GCP. Based on their recent cloud architecture blog, R does work through a lot of data. Or else, the Rstudio desktop works just fine (depending on the machine) Personally, I prefer R over Python and even over PgSQL for hands-down data processing and analysis. It's great for viz as well although Power BI or Tableau does better. IMO R adoption will only increase and the Big 4 in Cloud may (should) create custom deployable hosted R environments.
