How can you collaborate effectively with developers to enhance mobile design performance?

I start by ensuring I have a solid grasp of the technical constraints and possibilities of the platform. This knowledge empowers me to design experiences that are not only visually appealing but also feasible and performant. Additionally, I prioritize using design tools and prototyping methods that seamlessly integrate with the developers' workflow. This helps to bridge the gap between design and development, reducing misunderstandings and accelerating the design-to-development process.

It's always helpful to be very clear on technical guidelines and constraints as well as design goals and strategy. Working together in real time, with iterative implementations, helps both parts of the team refine and improve during the design and implementation.

It's common sense that everything can be solved by communication. But what we need to do is put all of this into practice. In practice means that you need to have routines and you need to repeat things and through it will come the basics of communication. So one example is to set weekly open ux hours, or open design hours where a designer sits and is open to give free advice sketched on the whiteboard to any developer that encounters a problem or a question and it can also be of things outside the daily work just to create the conversation which will create the communication. Another practice that I found to help is to not give a solution but pause the question or a problem that the developer can solve, which they are good at

In this case the design system you have created that will play a curious role. Before hand over the design file to dev team You have create 1. color palette 2. Used font and purpose with standard sizing and weight 3. Images and logo for light and dark version if applicable 4. Size of icons This will take some times to create but this will increase the productivity of developer team.

We need to educate the iOS/Android/Web and sometimes for the back-end engineers on how to use Figma, exporting icons, check margins or any other design guidelines. Best way is to use the design hand-off tools like Zeplin.

Provide developers with detailed design specs like color palettes, typography, and asset files in accessible formats. Use design handoff tools for collaboration, allowing developers to view designs, inspect elements, and extract assets. Offer style guides and design systems for clarity and consistency, ensuring developers understand and implement design intent accurately.

If we've a strong understanding of the respective platform UI guidelines will help you to understand the challenges from developers POV. As a designers we use to do for one platform but it eventually developed for both iOS and Android platforms. When we create a component, we'll do for the preferred design platform, which may be different or difficult to implement in other OS. A classic example is Date picker. Both OS follows different component set. Which is difficult to implement for any one platform developers to bring out the design consistency. Otherwise we suggest developers to go with native components

Show concepts and first drafts of the design with prototype team - in a general discussion with developers and testers you will be able to immediately discover the limitations of the platform. Using the team’s knowledge is a valuable resource.

Another way to enhance mobile app performance is by conducting user testing sessions and involving developers to participate in the user testing sessions this way both parties can observe how users interact with the product and also gather real insights. The Insights obtained can help both the developer and designer collaboratively deliberate and come up with a better way to solve major issues the users had during the testing sessions.

This is very much important stage before handing over the app to clients. UX designer have to test all the screens and end to end user flows. They can identify the bugs in terms of not matched with design , functional bug, flow mismatch and likewise. By this way the designer and developer can stay on the same page.

Jointly test designs with developers to identify performance issues early on. Provide input on design behavior under various conditions and collaborate on realistic test scenarios. We used to ask test build for design team to test along with testing team. We'll concentrate on aesthetics, components, states, color codes, font styles, images fit etc,. and report bugs accordingly to the testing team. If the developers want to release the build, they should get the green flag from design team apart from the testing team. If any one team raised concern, then they should not release the build to client or to store.

I probably use to work with my principles: - Those are included here too, excluding "understanding of code". - I also prefer to work very close to dev team to understand their technical feasibility, - And also by providing all the guidelines, (included here color palette/ typo/ alignment...etc.) - sitting with team and check the end product and open to make changes too... This is my personal work style. Quite hectic but good for satisfactory output, what you people think.
