Empathy is not in words but actions I have always spoken that sometimes the best way to gain control is to give control What i mean by that is that , empathy is shown in how a mentor first manages himself/hersefl It shows that the person makes the mentee comfortable , understandings their vulnerabilities Sometimes all you have to do is listen to the problem of the mentee without suggesting any solutions and that solves 50% of the weight in their heart Ask the mentee if he/she wants an answer then and there and build strong feedback loops what i mean by that is - be available for the person who you say is your mentee , make time - show effort , do discovery of how you can solve their challenges A actionable step >>>> 1000 words

With over 25 years of coaching executives in job searches, I've learned the importance of empathetic listening. Whether employed or not, each individual has a unique story at this crucial career juncture. Unemployed individuals often grapple with emotions like anger, self-doubt, and shame. It's vital to give them time to address these feelings to ready them for their job search. For those employed, the issue might be a disconnect with their role or organization. In both cases, being heard without judgment significantly aids in managing their career transition.

Job search can be the most exciting activity or the most challenging "need-to" task. Depending on multiple underlying and circumstantial aspects, such as current employment, emotional condition, financial stability, etc. the task may move from enjoyable into a bit of a sacrifice. As coach, the first I'd be interested to know is about emotional condition and personal goals. Is it clear for the coachee what to do next, which direction and is this a result of a thorough reflection or more a glimpse of a moment. Explore resources and establish a plan. Discipline Discipline Discipline, I cannot emphasise more the need of perseverance. You have to be ready for many "NO" and some "YES". Remember, you never lose: either you win, either you learn!

Coaching someone through a difficult job search can be challenging, but it can also be a rewarding experience for both the mentor and the mentee. Here are some tips that might help: 1. Listen actively to the concerns and frustrations. 2. Help them set realistic goals. They must be achievable. 3. Provide feedback and advice on their resume, LinkedIn profile, cover letter, and interview skills. 4. Encourage them to network with other professionals. Have them attend industry and professional networking events and connect with like-minded folks on LinkedIn. 5. Be patient and supportive with them. There will be highs and lows, be there for them.

I would emphasize the importance of not only listening to the client's words but also tuning into the emotions behind them. Taking notes on their initial feedback, targeting goals, and preferred industry positions is crucial for building a comprehensive understanding. This understanding goes beyond the professional context and delves into the emotional landscape of their job search. Demonstrating empathetic body language, such as maintaining eye contact and nodding, assures the client that they are being heard on a deeper level. This not only fosters trust but also allows for more nuanced and tailored guidance.

Getting clear on intentions is everything. I encourage my clients to really feel into what is important to them, what inspires them, what aligns with their purpose, what makes them excited and nervous at the same time. This helps you to uncover your passion and your calling. When you have a clear outline of what is important to you in shaping your future self, decision making becomes much simpler as every decision can be viewed through the lens of your future self. Simple not easy. Of course it takes work and it takes a little practice but all it truly requires is a mindset shift.

In addition to the goals listed here, it can help to go through an exercise of looking back and looking forward. Looking back- what have your prior opportunities taught you about your strengths and passions? What types of roles should you avoid based on your unique wiring? What types of roles have given you energy or felt “easy” to do? Looking forward- what is the ultimate end goal at this time? What does this look like in 5 years, 10 years? What next opportunities can help you get there? Perhaps you recognize in this exercise that you’ll need additional education, experience in a new industry, the need of a mentor, etc. The path might not be linear, and that’s ok! Learning = growth in any career move.

In addition to considering factors like salary, location, work culture, and growth potential, it's essential to delve into the future landscape of the chosen industry. Act as a guide, encouraging a holistic exploration of every aspect of the career they are considering. Utilizing tools such as SMART goals, SWOT analysis, or career assessments can provide a structured framework for this process. Help them not only identify their current skills and strengths but also envision how these align with their long-term aspirations.

There is an adage that says that if you do not have any goals, any road will get you there. The articulation of and the writing down of goals is essential and serves as a foundation for the construction of job search components following the initial self-assessment stage.

It is very important providing constructive feedback to job seekers, focusing on specific, actionable points. Moreover, highlighting their strengths, address areas for improvement, and offer practical suggestions if any. Tough love or whatever you would like to call it but clients are looking more for the truth in improving rather than glossing over an area that needs to be addressed for them to successfully move through the job search process.

One of the things a good mentor can do through this process is use their vast network to help push their mentee's CV to the top of the pile and bypass the SAT systems that might screen the mentee's CV in the recruiting process.

When career coaching and doing an needs analysis, I try to understand the resources that are most relevant and then ask the student I am coaching (I work in a college), to select which ones they want to take action on so they buy into it. Some resources I have leveraged for students include: - Career/Self Assessments - Networking platforms and tips - Connecting students with other students or professionals - Resume and Cover Letter Templates - On campus resources/offices that can help - Others as relevant or identified through the coaching session

From there, it becomes a step-by-step journey. A key initial step is crafting a resume showcasing their experience and including relevant keywords to pass through ATS. A compelling motivation letter tailored to the specific role. Moreover, exploring transferable skills is essential. Sometimes, skills acquired in one context can be seamlessly applied to another. We work on developing their personal brand and helping them stand out in a competitive job market. The process extends to interview preparation and follow-up strategies.

In my opinion and experience I would say that anyone who is helping job seekers, they shall encourage job seekers to take proactive steps by creating a strategic action plan. By Breaking down tasks into manageable steps, setting deadlines, and emphasize the importance of consistent effort. Additionally, stressing the value of networking and leveraging online platforms to connect with professionals, attend industry events, and maintain a strong online presence for valuable insights and opportunities. Like any other work project, goals and timelines for completing need to be established and also a mechanism for evaluating progress and implementing remedial measures. Once completed, this blue print can also serve as a compelling motivator. Plan your work and then work your plan, a sound sales adage.

Reviewing and reflecting is of utmost importance, as doing the same things over and over again is bound to yield the same result , in the context of job searches. Reviewing applications, CV, interview preparation etc thoroughly and making necessary changes from the lessons learnt will ultimately catapult the candidate in cracking the hiring process. It would also be critical to reflect on these experiences, to make sure that the same mistakes are not repeated.

Recalling past situations and the personal skills they've applied to persevere through those situations serves as a reminder of the skills which they possess and can apply in this current job search, as well as a source of gratitude and motivation for continued perseverance and commitment to their goal.

I've found a sharp focus on the positive can help secure reflection as a helpful stepping stone in future endeavors. If something is unsuccessful, focusing on what went wrong isn't quite as helpful as finding something that went right, and figuring out how to expand on it.

No job search is ever particularly easy, whether it was the individuals decision or not. One of the biggest challenges is that you aren’t in control, this can be both the timeline and the need - the employer is in charge of time and need and this can be influenced by others (eg recruiters) So the key for being successful is giving yourself plenty of options and chances for success. Don’t rely on a single set of actions, think about recruiters, direct approaches, networking and job sites. So think about 1. Your aim 2. Your offer 3. How you present this 4. How you can create more options (think wide) 5. Focus on the things you can control Look each week on progress and make sure you aren’t just repeating the same approach.

Many other ways can be developed by the coach to support their clients through difficult times, As a coach, i will have to support the client to develop a targeted job search strategy, by identifying potential platforms or networking to reach when searching for a job. And most importantly, clients has to be encouraged to enhance their personal brand (including a professional picture and profile) Client should be encouraged to practice interview to enhance the interviewing skills. The coach should also provide encouragement and motivation to the client by giving them the honest opinion.

Don't run these activities in a linear way but make sure they are all complimenting one another to achieve a timely and successful 'land!'

Adding to the great advice shared remember to: - keep your network updated on your progress - offer to help/support others going through the same search process - keep engaged and involved in relevant topics for your sector (and in doing so expand your network) - maintain perspective: use the time to exercise mind and body, get outside and enjoy nature, be grateful for all the positives in your life
