Trust is not limited to face to face interaction, after 8 years of remote working with different people from different countries, I admit that trust can be gained virtually, maybe it requires different tools utilising the technology, switching the camera, having conversations outside of work, sharing experiences, having discussion about personal development not only career development, and having regular 1:1 conversations, all those things will open a warm space remotely, in addition to the support that we can provide to our teams remotely whenever needed and give them the space and the feeling of having psychological safe environment to be themselves. I had personal great leaders I trusted and never met them face to face.

To build trust in remote teams, keep communication open through chats, video calls, and emails. Be honest, sharing both successes and challenges. Set clear, shared goals with room for flexibility, making everyone feel valued. Regular check-ins on work and well-being help build rapport. Foster bonding with virtual hangouts and celebrate wins. Get to know each other beyond work by sharing personal stories. Lead by being authentic and vulnerable, encouraging the same from your team. Hold each other accountable positively, celebrating progress and reminding gently of deadlines. Lastly, show care for each other’s well-being and offer flexibility when needed.
