How can you build trust with new employees?

Doe niet alsof. Echte geloofwaardigheid gaat over meer dan betrouwbaar, eerlijk of transparant zijn. Het gaat om het geloven waard zijn. Geloven en vertrouwen zijn twee kanten van dezelfde medaille. Je doet het bij gebrek aan bewijs. Je kunt van een ander niet eisen dat die je vertrouwt. Laat staan dat diegene je gaat volgen. Het gaat om demonstreren waar je voor staat. En als je iets zegt, dan mag men je eraan houden. De beste controlevraag die je daarom kunt stellen is: geloof je het zelf? En als het antwoord ja is, waaruit blijkt dat dan? Als je niet bereid bent om die vraag onder ogen te komen, dan is de kans groot dat een ander je niet zomaar zal volgen. Mensen hebben een feilloos afgestelde radar voor mensen die doen alsof.

By not being stuffy and hung up on process. Be HUMAN. Be normal. Don’t be the suit you are wearing or the desk you are sitting behind of the office wall you sit behind…talk to them like you do you best friends or family.

Provide new employees with comprehensive onboarding and training programs to help them understand the company, the job, the goals, and the expectations. Engrain & and emphasize company culture so they can be their whole self this can help to alleviate pressure and reduce the chances of errors.

Remember when you first started, it was a new environment, new people, new way of doing things. Think back to one of the things that would have made things easier for you and make sure that you do that one thing. Always make time for new staff, let them ask their questions, and answer them with patience and understanding. If you have an important deadline, explain this to them but put time in your diary where you can grab a coffee with them and answer any questions they may have. If it is easier, set a suitable time aside daily just to catch up - ask how they are finding things, and what is it that they are not feeling comfortable with. What can you do to assist them.

I am in the business of developing IT talent with the intention of delivering high quality services to our customers and clients. So making sure that my employees have all of the resources that they need to create a favorable and valuable experience for our customers is paramount to our mission which states, "we empower people, organizations and communities with technology". The people are the focus of our success, the technology is an enabler. So having training, mentoring and coaching to ensure that our people have adequate skill and confidence to deliver on the technology demands of our customers is our top priority. We include team daily stand up meetings to ensure that we stay on course and remain nimble.

Put time aside each day to go through the company portal - there are probably hundreds, if not thousands, of policies, procedures, in-house tools, and training. Take the time to go through each of these with them, and let them know how often the most relevant tools are updated (annual reviews done online, etc). It is overwhelming when starting at a new organization, especially a huge global organization that has a lot of things published and run through the intranet, make sure they know how to navigate this tool.

Acknowledge their efforts, especially in the first few weeks as this will grow their confidence and make them feel like they are in a safe environment where their contributions are appreciated.

When working on a task or project, ask for their input - how did they do it at their previous employment, do they have alternative methods of doing a specific task that could save you time and aggravation, if not, explain to them why you do things the way you do them so that they have a full understanding of the process.

I have experimented some while ago with a 'dignity project' and it hit the desired mark. 1) involve new employees to solve problems that are known to be confidential. this spikes their dignity like crazy 2) surprise them by involving new employees in hiring and onboarding. they really work hard to do it well and make commendable efforts at self-acclimatisation.

Speak to them about them - ask what their interests are, what makes them excited, and what makes them angry. What are their passions? You never know, you may make a friend for life and, if not, at least someone who has respect for you in the work place.

Based on experience, being consistent with what is being said and what is being done, walk the talk, work with integrity plays a very important role in getting new employees' trust. This would make them feel the sincerity of what you do and will pave the way for them to open up and give that trust.
