As a IT leader, I strive to allow my team to focus on gaining experience by exposing them to opportunities that will allow them to grow and feel valued. It’s important to have a culture that harnesses camaraderie that embraces one another’s abilities and disabilities. As they develop themselves and likely others, their confidence will grow simply because they will be more competent. Be on the lookout for what motivates your team members, give them that chance and see what happens. Competency will lead to increased confidence.

Communication is very obviously the key to successful projects and happy customers and starts from the moment a project is imagined with the clear definition of requirements and critical success factors. While working on a project, team members must understand that there are questions that NOBODY on the team knows the answers to. Landing these open questions with the entire team develops transparency and confidence, which ultimately leads to success. The ownership of the unknowns by the project team and the confirmation that they exist by documenting them is a great starting point. Asking questions when you feel uncomfortable often highlights these grey areas and will prove to any team member that they are not the only one in the dark.

One thing I've found most effective is that you must always be with your team on the field. If they feel that you are embracing the project as your own, their confidence starts increasing.

It's simple, building confidence in your IT team boils down to a few key steps: encouraging continuous learning, fostering mentorship, promoting knowledge sharing, and staying updated on industry trends.

We all work with a variety of personalities, especially on technical teams, so I find doing a team exercise of taking a team personality test beneficial (16Personalties, Clifton Strengthfinders, Myers Briggs to name a few). It helps both management and the team understand more about each other and how to approach work together as well as how to articulate issues and ideas. It enables the team to understand and trust in their teammates and their management thru embracing transparency in how everyone operates and what they need to work together. I highly recommend trying these tests as a team and then discussing the results over a team virtual lunch and sharing insights.

Yes, the training, support and change management user journey is a critical success factor for any new tech implementation done by a Tech team. While many IT leaders say here this is "simple", and maybe the concerns are few when IT leaders are talking about training and support for their own IT teams, we have clients who have had IT legal tech implementations done for them by others, but the client (users) then comes to us to help them realise the real value of their investment because the newly implemented solutions are not being properly used! Training and support can sometimes be perceived as the poor cousin to the technical side of IT implementation but it is equally, if not more essential, from the end-user perspective.

Training and support is NOT the next step, in my experience. Deriving the current business process, and the new business process that will result from the implementation of the new IT tool is paramount. This should be done early in the project and, when it comes time for training and support, designing training around those business processes. THEN, you can provide training and support that is viable and needed.

The IT team needs to meet frequently, once a day, to discuss routine or progress of ongoing projects. Just to meet and discuss what should be coming today or in the near future. Knowledge sharing about their work or in general It. Make a regular training session. Keep a channel open to share or discuss the work or share issues knowledge.

I'm sharing a nugget of wisdom from "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" by Stephen R. Covey: Delegate and Empower. Here's the deal - when you delegate tasks and empower your team members, it's like giving them the keys to success. You're essentially saying, "I trust you, and I believe in your abilities." It's a win-win situation. In the IT world, it means matching tasks with your team's strengths, giving them autonomy and resources, involving them in decision-making, and trusting them. This not only boosts their confidence but also fuels motivation and creativity. Building a confident IT team is all about creating an environment of trust, value, and capability.

Delegation is a powerful tool for both the delegate and the leader. It not only offers a method of increasing your capacity, but provides a platform for team members to grow their skillsets in the desired direction. It's critical to understand the career plans of your team members for this to be effective, then the next step is accepting that you will delegate the task, and so it's finished product may look different to your own vision of it. This is where growth comes for both sides again - you have the opportunity to grow your mentoring and coaching skills to help hone the skillset of your team member, and in turn they can gain insights and learn how to better execute the task or integrate their own flair.

I sometimes compare the role of the leader as a conductor of an orchestra. The members make the music, and the leader helps with the cross-coordination and support individuals where support is needed.

When delegating and empowering people, it's super important to keep a tab on their progress and take the role of guard rails. The customer shouldn't have to pay the cost of inexperience or experiments by the partner.

Building team confidence in IT requires a combination of supportive leadership, skill development, open communication, and a positive work environment. By investing in your team's professional growth and well-being, you'll foster a confident and capable IT workforce.

Following is critical for any Team 1) Create a culture where team members should trust each other. 2) Team members should be open and truthful with each other. 3) Team and each members should have well defined, achievable goals. 4) Each team member should be encouraged and should be engaged. 5) Celebrate small achievements but not forget the big picture. 6) Manager should have very clear vision and goals. 8) No work is small, Every team member should be appreciated. 9) Issues should be discussed openly and not behind the doors 10) Managers should not take sides (No Side A or B inside the team)

When the team achieves a goal, both big and small, be sure to celebrate their accomplishment. This helps to build morale and confidence and shows team members that their work is valued.

In my opinion, one fantastic way to boost team confidence is by giving credit where it's earned. It's important to acknowledge their hard work with some well-deserved praise and appreciation. Celebrating their achievements and milestones is a must. Recognizing and rewarding our team not only amps up their confidence but also brings out their best performance and overall job satisfaction.

Not everyone has the same motivations, but I have found that money, in forms of cash or gift cards is great for boosting immediate moral and helps employees to see the direct correlation between their efforts and their financial well-being.

Don't just recognize within your team, share the successes as broadly as you can. After all their success is yours and the teams as well.

These details are often overlooked, especially in an outsourcing environment where not all control processes are managed in-house, and therefore are more visible.
