If dwindling, better not to hitch yourself to a falling star. 3. Are they at least two levels above your manager? Do not use mentor that is one level above your boss-it will make your boss very nervous. Picking a mentor that works for your competitor is also a bad idea. 4. Does he/she possess the skills you seek to gain? 5. Does the mentor have work experience in the role you aspire to? 6. Does the mentor have the schedule availability to meet with you regularly? 7. Does the mentor have any prior mentoring experience? 8. Do you have a connection?
