How can you build relationships with people in Product Development when you are new to the industry?

Reach out to people via social and professional platforms or cross-functional interaction inside the company. Interest is a real Key, and be genuinely curious about a product/area you want to know about. Understand the fundamental concepts and terminology in specific products to engage in meaningful conversations.

Just being helpful to the team members in any assignment although we should learn something new as soon as possible. Active on discussions at any topic and suggest new idea or insight without seems like teaching other team members. Ask new assignment to team leader and ask suggestions from other team members about our plan/thought regarding the assignment.

As a new comer of industry, it might be essential to learn typical jargons of the product industry. Through the communication in jargons, people might be looked as "experienced" one in this industry. Some ways to collect those jargons, such as attending the conferences, sourcing from YouTube & blogs , and face to face talk with commercial or technical peoples in the same or related industries. Don't be afraid to communicate with peoples, even if any one has known you are new. Most of people are positive and happy to share the essential reference to new comers, at least they will guide you where and how to get the information.

There are various ways one can build relationships with other professionals in product development, including but not limited to joining product development communities to learn and keep abreast of what's happening in this domain, routinely contributing to product development discussions, working jointly with other product team members on various projects, seeking mentorship from senior developers and product managers (which I religiously do), and maintaining a curious attitude willing to make mistakes and learn from them.

Engage in industry-specific hackathons and innovation challenges. These events often bring together top talent to collaboratively tackle real-world problems.

To build relationships in product development as a newcomer, actively participate in industry exhibitions and events, especially those featuring engineered product sessions. Use these opportunities to network. Key to success is staying curious and listening to learn, rather than simply listening to respond.

Give yourself a challenge when you show up to an online product development community or in events, conferences and trade shows, each time to go home with one specific challenge you took note of from a participant. Make it your challenge to get back with something of value to that challenge: a different POV, list of resources you found, make an introduction to someone in your network to that challenge etc. Contribute, contribute, contribute. You will learn and you will be active. Don’t just talk, act on it. Just for fun ??
