How can you build a fulfilling and financially rewarding career?

Knowing who you are is more important than what you do. We can learn a lot about ourselves by reflecting and being still. Journal, meditate, practice mindfulness, etc. Ditch the technology and see what’s inside of you.

To have a career that is both fulfilling and rewarding is a dream for most of us. Most people look at the financial aspect when choosing a career path that they fail to see if it is something they are passionate about. It is important to find a career that is fulfilling and enjoyable so that you do not need to worry about stress, burnout or be confused mid-way.

Finding the sweet spot By knowing your self you are aware of what you love and can contribute to the world, but it is also important to know what the world needs now. Connecting the points between what you can offer and what is needed in the labor market is crucial for a fulfilling yet a rewarding career. Finding a meaning Another important fact to consider is even if you are passionate about your job, there will always be challenges that will pull you back. To stay focused and motivated you need to find a deep meaning to your career. This meaning is the fuel that will help you to continue to succeed and show up through tough times and to bounce back after knock downs.

The first step to building a fulfilling and financially rewarding career is to know yourself. Never hesitate to use various tools and methods to assess yourself, such as self-reflection, feedback, personality tests, and career aptitude tests for turning dreams into reality!

If you want to build a career that you are genuinely interested in, then you must first know yourself and your interests, abilities, and weaknesses. When you know what you are good at you will eventually be able to find opportunities for yourself.

Talk to as many people as you can. You'd be shocked by what people get paid to do for work. There are countless careers that we didn't learn about in school growing up, so continue to ask and research different types of roles.

Talk to people. Ask questions. I find that most well established and seasoned professionals are more than happy to provide insight and guidance to inquiring minds considering their respective industries. Consider podcasts and YouTube channels focused on your interests. It may spark on idea or motivate you to consider other options.

I feel one has to follow what is instinctively and wholeheartedly interesting to them even if they have no idea why. It is very hard to do well consistently in something chosen by mere logical decisions.

To conversate to listen, makes me grow personally. Listening to understand makes me feel connected. Connection with simular WHYs gives me the possibility to have impact. That‘s all I go for.

Even when you are "settled" in a career, continue to learn and grow and investigate other options. Time invested in one career isn't lost when you shift to a new one. Your past experience will always contribute to your next adventure.

Having a vision is different than having a plan. A vision is fluid and values-based. A vision is the basis for prioritization. The year's reflection on the things you leave behind and allow to grow is the compass needle for my next stage.

The hardest part of anything is getting started. We think we have to have it all figured out. Truth is we already have everything we need. We do not need to take massive action. If you are not sure of the exact direction to go take a small step in any direction and test the waters. If it’s not right, pivot and you lost little time and resources. Small consistent action over time will create massive results.

Staying in the energy of trust gives me strength. Consistently reminding myself that success is not a linear path keeps me going. Welcoming unexpected events allows me to see the opportunities in them.

I've been told: set the goal then make a plan, then follow the plan (action) and forget the goal. The action will achieve the goal.

Always be failing. Always be learning. Every failure is a learning lesson. A way we figured out how not to do it. We must be comfortable being uncomfortable. That’s what failing is. It’s uncomfortable. Failure is success in disguise. You are one step closer to your goal.

Developing myself is a real joy. However, trying something new is often uncomfortable for me at the beginning. I've grown when it's fun. Last experience of this kind: improvisational theater!

Take time to enjoy all your wins no matter how small. There are wins all around us if we pause long enough to see them. You can do this by reflecting daily. Start a journaling practice and write your wins daily. Review them at the end of each week and see what you are most proud of and what area need improvement. Often times as we start to gain momentum at first it’s fast and feels like we are moving mountains. Then the wins don’t appear to be showing up. Truth is when you look down you are just seeing the last mountain you climbed. Remember where you came from in the beginning.

Before you can capitalize on a venture, you need to get good at serving people. Before you can know how to manage $10k, you need to learn how to manage $10. Instead of desiring for a financially abundant career, learn about how to serve others from the beginning. Give freely, and don't make it about the money. Make it about the people and the lessons. One day, all of that will turn into a real business with a clear structure, management, mission and vision.
