Not every period of unemployment needs to be explained. In fact, the best course for a short gap (less than a year), is to let it be. Think of it as a minor disruption, treat it that way, and a hiring manager will be less inclined to make it a huge issue. Use your cover letter to explain reasonable and understandable circumstances that led you to change jobs relatively quickly. In some cases, time away from work was not the result of layoffs or company closings. If that's the case, a cover letter can play a valuable role. Don’t, however, base your explanation on a litany of your employers’ faults. Badmouthing and negativity never go over well, regardless of how bad things were.

??Give more emphasis to achievements - if you remained for a short period of time in a job, but you can share at least 3 powerful achievements and positive results you generated for the company, you make the short experience more valuable. ??If you were laid off - mention that. There is no need to be ashamed of it, specially because it has been happening very often recently. Once again, highlight your achievements. ??If the company promised you some conditions, but after hiring you, the conditions changed - if you left the company after 3 months or less, probably you don’t even need to mention this experience in your resume.

What has worked for me :- 1.Resume formats need to tell your story - I keep working on them for every application. Thumb rule - Not more than 2 pages, ideal case 1 pg. Summarise outputs and outcomes rather than just the role cause the designation gives a flavour of the latter and someone screening is more interested in what you achieved in these roles rather than just a summary of responsibilities 2. Add Professional Summary - jist of you career and work ethic. 3. Cover Letter - Add a personal touch to your application in making your case by specifically showcasing what skills , experience and knowledge makes you a good fit...

Use reverse-chronological order. Include specific employment dates. Consider a functional format for gaps. Highlight achievements in each role. Be honest and concise about changes. Focus on relevant experiences. Maintain a consistent resume format.

Start with a strong summary statement that highlights your career achievements to date - emphasizing the transferable skills. We know our eyes scan pages from top to bottom, so we are wowing them with the info they are reading first. Then, in the experience section, we focus on relevant experiences (most often in reverse chronological order). If you are worried about duration, list years only. There is typically no need to list months and years for each role. Remember a resume is a snapshot of my experience - not an exhaustive list of everything.

Keep it concise :) Recruiters often have limited time to review each resume, so keep yours concise and focused. Aim for a one- to two-page resume and use bullet points to convey information succinctly. Prioritize the most relevant and impactful details while omitting unnecessary or redundant information. Functional resumes are yet to get that level of acceptance, as employers are traditionally conditioned to look chronological progression of a candidate. Hybrid format resumes are best suited for those with employment gaps. Mention the gap in resume itself in the same order as you would write the other experience(s). Unless and until it is a situation which completely hinders learning something new, learn a new skill during this gap. Volunteering experiences are pretty well accepted by the employers, and if you were doing any, do mention that in your resume (gap).

Don't think of your resume as a detailed biography. Your resume is your sales brochure. Everything in it should be focused on answering the question "what's in it for me?", where Me is the reader, the potential employer or networking contact.

So I suggest you make use of the Action verb + Task + Metric/results/impact approach when writing your work experience. Don't forget that your CV should also speak to the company's value propositions - so your CV must be targeted to the role, company culture and needs.
