Individuals and companies organizes this design challenges and competitions which could come with monetary or other forms of reward.

From my perspective, design challenges and competitions serve as exciting platforms that offer designers like myself the opportunity to showcase our creativity and skills. These events, hosted by diverse entities ranging from companies to communities, provide a clear brief, a deadline, and specific criteria to guide the creation of innovative design solutions. Whether it's graphic design, web design, UX design, product design, or logo design, these competitions encourage us to think outside the box and push our boundaries. Participating in design challenges such as hackathons is the best thing, especially for young designers. I got a chance to work in a team during a hackathon when everyone worked towards the same problem statement and brainstormed together till we designed our final Product. ??You got to learn one basic management principle, "Disagree and commit" because not every time do we agree with the design decisions while working on the team. We have to commit as a team to move forward and complete the challenge within a deadline. ?? you will learn the art of articulating your thoughts in a way that is understandable by other team members. ?? Bonus: You will have one portfolio project ready once you complete this challenge.

Subjective judging can also lead to frustration. Many competitions don't offer compensation for participants, leading to designers investing their time and skills without monetary gain.

Design challenges, somehow, are more beneficial towards the growth of personality and individuality. It helps in creating an understanding of one's work style and creativity. Everytime you work on a problem, together in a team or individually, it builds your ability to listen, articulate, adapt and then come to a conclusion. When you are working in a team, there are always conflicts and getting over those to come to a resolution and then building over a theme feels like a bigger sense of achievement where the success and the end product is not his or her's. It's theirs, together. That sense of achievement definitely boosts confidence, gives wings to more creativity and develops a sense of improvement, to get better and better.

In my experience design challenges and competitions are a great boost in confidence if you take home any awards. But my favorite part of being in any of these is the judging, I want to hear what the judges liked and didn't like. I produce several magazines, many of which are monthly. After getting into the swing of things, you are comfortable with your designs. Getting feed back opens your eyes to other peoples perspectives and helps get the creativity flowing again. It makes you a better designer.

Everyone has reasons for joining a design challenge or competition. Your field of design should determine your participation in am challenge or competition. Collaboration is key in participating.

A good design challenge needs to have a bigger purpose so that the outcome means something. The first step in making a strong design challenge is to make sure it really matters. It's also really important that the design team can question and understand the challenge well. This makes sure they know what they're doing and leads to better results.

Conduct research on the topic, client, target audience, and competitors. Develop a well-structured plan with achievable milestones and deadlines. Sketch ideas and build mockups or prototypes. Test and gather feedback for improvements. Refine your design, paying attention to details. Finally, present your solution with a clear rationale for your decisions.

The design process works best when it's done in iterative stages: Explore, Create, Evaluate. These are effective methods for moving forward. Avoid planning too far ahead. Always focus on the most critical assumptions and design experiments to quickly and inexpensively test whether it's right or wrong.

During the iterative approach, the most effective advice is to aim to invalidate assumptions rather than prove them right #ConfirmationBias. This can save a significant amount of time and money. The key impact metric is time per learning. While the solution will evolve multiple times throughout the design process, the challenge remains the same. Each time you invalidate an assumption, you gain deeper insights into the core issue. Repeatedly following this approach leads to expertise and ultimately results in an exceptional user experience.

Growing as a Product Designer requires challenges in some form and design challenges offer these. Simply put, design challenges are problems to be solved. Two skills required to solve problems are critical and creative thinking. Sometimes they come quoted as “how can I make this better?” Or “how can I make this seamless, enjoyable and understandable?” As these questions are sometimes projected as real life problems, learning to take a minute to ask the HMWs, putting consideration on creative thinking (Interface design) and critical thinking helps us, product designers, get better at solving problems, even when they’re just made up. ??
