How can you beat stage fright before a sales pitch?

I find during my time doing a lot of sales pitches,one of the things that added value to anything i had to say was the fact that i also believed in the product or service.

Traditional Sales pitching is like public speaking, namely talking at people and very few enjoy it. Next time you pitch try this instead. Engage your clients with a few prepared and relevant questions. This way your pitch will be more like a natural dialogue. The audience is now part of the pitch and you won’t end up like a nervous wreck.

One approach that helped me in few early public speaking events was to break the ice with the audience through interactive questions about why are they here or how do they expect to get benefitted from this session. Then start your message covering some of the points from the audience related to topic.

Trying to "beat" stage fright as most actors know, is a losing battle. You have to learn to work with it. If you try to squash your merves, you squash the energy along with it and your performance will be flat and boring. Managing and redirecting them through breathing and warm-up exercises, as well as shifting your focus from yourself and how you feel to how you want your audience to feel are all part of an actors bag of tricks that apply equally to the business stage!

Understanding your audience is the 1st step to calm your nerves. Use the message map to create compelling, relevant messages for various audience segments . A message map simplifies your story, fits the story onto one page and gets to the point . Leave your audience with one key headline and use the rule of 3 to support your headline. The benefit of using a mesage map: 1) Not speaking in circles - speaking to the point I.e being concise 2) You know what to tell, which makes it easier for your practise and rally the audience around a common vision

Thorough preparation is the most underrated presentation skill. The most effective presenters I've encountered dedicate an immense amount of time to preparation. Notably, those deeply committed to their presentations often begin their preparations two months in advance. Meanwhile, even those who are adept at last-minute preparations typically start at least two weeks ahead of their presentation.

Prepare / Polish /Practice /Practice /Practice it until it flows -to really nail the delivery of a great presentation it needs to come out naturally - Once you have it locked in - it becomes automatic (similar to muscle memory when doing a repetitive physical action) and your able to be alot more extemporaneous and present Agree that this same level of preparation is needed to have solid responses to the most likely objections / questions that you can have a well thought out response to - this builds your confidence and enables you to really shine and connect with your audience

Practicing in as real of settings as possible, ideally with a live audience, is key. Additionally, using digital tools like Virtual Speech (Virtual Reality app) enables you to practice the experience the stage fright in advance (similar to exposure therapy) so you can alleviate it when you actually present. VS also gives you coaching on your tone, speed, gestures, gaze, etc. which is like having a 24/7 presentation coach at your disposal.

After preparing the basics - major arguments, evidence, examples, stories to grab attention, slides - I then focus on what could be the most challenging questions the audience could pose. This is a great way to strengthen areas you may be weakest in, or create clarity for complex ideas.

Making a video of yourself is also key. I would dare to say that is mandatory, you will learn a lot, and can correct a lot of things that you wouldn’t otherwise find about.

Almost everyone gets anxious before an important presentation - so realizing you are not alone with your feelings may help. Some confidence will come from knowing you are prepared and that you took the task seriously. You cannot eliminate all your nerves - just know you are making a valuable contribution to any conversation.

A great way to start is by asking a question. That will grab the attention immediately, and if possible, leave the answer for later. This way you will have more control of the situation.

Do not only visualize your success, visualize yourself coming across as your true self! Success will stem from not hiding who you really are - someone well-versed enough to be talking about something in the first place - and your genuineness will win people over, too. Not having to put up a front, or pretend, is also a way to be more comfortable.

Agree with this - but ahead of time - a week or night before - then put it away and go thru your checklist - have you done all the work ? how is your confidence level? where do you feel that the gaps are ? if you have time - work on them - if not be aware of them and try to have team members that can help back you up if you need assistance. Remember this is a TEAM sport - you have alot of resources in the business to help make this Presentation successful.....

You can also visualiza everybody as they were all naked, then you will know that you’re facing only humans, with fears, emotions, dreams, same as you.

Extremly helpful advice - warm up just like your about to hit your daily work out routine - it sheds nervous energy and the "jitters" and helps to focus your body to be engaged and present

If you have nailed the preparation - this is much easier to do and it will in fact come almost naturally as its a great way to start a feedback loop as your moving thru slide by slide

Engaging and interacting is a key component in nailing a presentation. I have witnessed opportunities be missed because someone was so focused on speaking to the information of the pitch, that they didn't recognize that the potential client lost focus, or was not interested in the particular solution that was being spoken to. Being engaged with your audience, reading their non-verbal cues, and being prepared to pivot the conversation based on those cues is key.

Do the Work / Put aside doubt pleny of time to do a post mortem of what went right what didnt and take those learnings to your next presentation - Always focus on incremental improvements Rely on your Team - At work and at home Remember - This is business - at the end of the day your still breathing / regardless of outcome / there will be a "Next" one So, put things into perspective / face that which is causing fear / address it / Believe in yourself / focus on what to improve - Execute the Task Oh and Remember to THANK everyone that helped you get to this moment

I would like to share what a batsman does when he goes to the crease. He doesn’t take strike immediately. He will watch the field, run his eyes over the fielders, go and tap the pitch, wait outside the crease for a few seconds, take a deep breath and then he will take his stance. Similarly when a Speaker goes on the stage he is not required to start immediately. He can check the mike, laptop, slide changer etc, he can run his eyes over the audience, smile, walk 1 or 2 steps naturally and then start. These few seconds or minutes give you the time to settle the butterflies in your stomach and also engage with the audience. Your mind becomes relaxed and then you can start.

Understanding the audience you are going to delve into is important Adding pre-hand quick go through will add to the confidence in the pitch.

Knowing that you are in charge of any Presentation takes away any imaginable fear. Stage fright comes when two things are not available namely...Knowledge(Presentation topic) and Familiarity(Audience). We can summarize the cause to be lack of confidence, but these two are the basis for confidence building. I always study the topic as wide as I can, having the picture of my audience at heart. If they are Consultants in such topic, I study as much as I think a Consultant would. If I don't know them, wow, it becomes easier because I would have to direct the presentation to the area of my expertise. Do more to always Know your audience that helps you familarise during practise by using your mirror. The mirror practise method has always saved me

Indeed for me the most important is whe you know your content as that will enable you to have that punch and free flow when doing your presentation. In most cases when you make yourself subject matter expect you will not have much questions from your audience but clarity seeking..
