Having advice from multiple great mentors is a luxury. But what do you do if the advice is contradictory? Be an adult. Make a tough decision and follow the path that you feel is best. You'll never have your path fully paved by someone else.

Multiple mentors are bound to create confusion in your mind. It is likely to create conflicts in your decision making. Follow one mentor whom you have respect for and is well known.

In my experience, I usually do this like this 1. I Create a Mentorship Dream Team: Curate a diverse group of mentors for comprehensive guidance in different aspects of consulting. 2. Then I Create a Roadmap: Develop a structured mentorship roadmap, defining specific areas of expertise and goals for each mentor. 3. I Use AI-Driven Matchmaking: Use AI tools to match your needs with suitable mentors, ensuring a targeted and efficient mentorship experience. 4. I Focus on Fostering Collaboration: Encourage mentor collaboration for enriched insights, creating a strong support system for your consulting journey.

It is not easy to find good mentors. Thank your stars if you are lucky enough to have a choice of multiple mentors. But how do we balance their advice? Envision your goals and list the areas you need support. Identify mentors who specialize in the chosen areas. Seek guidance from a mentor who has already been where you aspire to be. Seek mentors who encourage learning and growth through meaningful dialogue, rather than providing quick answers. Hold on to such mentors and build great relationship with them. Do not aim for multiple mentors. Rather, identify a great mentor and build a fruitful mentor-mentee relationship.

If you are in a position to get advice from multiple mentors then you are in a good spot. Identify mentors who have expertise / have faced similar situations in their own career. It always helps to hear from people who have expertise/ experience in the same area. From the advice you have received analyse which of these are relevant/ applicable and can be executed. Also consider the impact on your business from a 360 degree angle perspective. Mentors may not have a complete picture therefore it is imperative that you consider all aspects. Finally, don’t be emotional about the person who is giving the feedback, focus on impact from the advice. Do the best for your business not just from an immediate solution but also from a long term plan.

That itself is valuable and can show you a more holistic view of how you come across and what you may need to work on. As a rule, the bigger the sample, the better the data.

Its basic, but make sure you're on time for meetings, don't push meetings at the last minute, and show gratitude for their time. If you're in the same city, take them for lunch or dinner sometime. Your mentors can be with you for a long time, so mutual respect is key.

Those who are fortunate enough to become mentors to their juniors truly wish to help by sharing their wisdom and help those who come after them have a better time in chasing the goals the mentor had to struggle to get through. This doesn’t mean one has to do everything the mentors or the consultants say. The individual should identify which route is best for them and here’s the catch, a good mentor wants to be involved in helping you determine the best course of action. Good mentors rarely say “do this” instead they help you weed out the confusion and help you settle on a decision. So always be grateful and respectful and honor the time spent with mentors and consultants. The important piece to remember is the decision is always yours.

Just like some smaller organizations have advisory boards I often recommend a small Advisory Board for an individual.3 perhaps 4 respected credible individuals who can give you say 30 mts once a month act as surrogate mentors but with a difference,-you should be accountable to them for whatever you jointly agree to do

You may consider yourself blessed if you have multiple mentors. On the other hand you should review the recommendations and check if your mentor follows this in their own professional life. Having had the experience in deploying a solution and recommend it, is totally different on a high level theory of what will work. Technology changes so fast and we need to stop running after shiny objects. Real experience and going through the entire cycle of selecting/planning/developing/deployment are key to make the advise golden.

You cannot. Each mentor will be providing a part of the knowledge you seek. A different perspective. You have to understand each perspective and combine elements as necessary for your use. Then depending on the weightage of a particular response, approach the mentor who has given you the best picture, to conclude. Each piece of advise will be different.
