And in cases where the organization does not have policies and procedures as it usually is the case in some NGOs in Africa (due to the scale they operate). Consider learning from other organizations (sister or partner organizations) that have policies you can draw from. Usually these organizations prefer to give you the help or policy documentation in a summarized or verbal form so they avoid having to share their legal conflict resolution framework. In my experience, volunteering organizations are ever ready to extend helping hands to similar organizations in need because they understand that they are all working towards a common goal.

The fourth step to avoid conflicts of interest is to seek feedback and support from others who can help you identify, disclose, and manage these conflicts. In my opinion, self-assessment and the feedback from others are more then welcome in overcoming conflicts of interests. Clear communication, assertive approach and respect make everything more functional.

First, leadership is a skill w wall imagine we have and desire as we grow in our line of work. However, it is not something everyone possesses and in some cases has to be ‘learned’ through training and mentoring. Some of us are shaped by our culture and practices that predisposes us to certain behavioural patterns that latently makes us self seeking and autocratic. Many times it is unconscious. If you come from a very competitive environment you are desperate to lead and ‘Control’. For some Leadership is Control. In many cultures it is somewhat like that until to unlearn and relearn the main requirement of Team Work and Democratic style leadership. So the diet thing to be considered is profiling to know our character type ahead.
