A recruiter first of all to avoid recruitment mistakes has to get more detailed information from the hiring person whom he/she wants to hire in terms of personality as well as technical knowledge. In my experience it’s best to source from a wide range of resources. Not only post to traditional sites like LinkedIn. Cross post to Veterans groups, Diversity recruitment sites, etc. Passive candidates are still looking and you may find your Diamond.

Thorough analysis of the potential candidates is a must. - Basically cv review for the qualification. - Use a standard tools in hiring like, IQ test, personality test, team player assessment and others that fit the perspective of the organization. - Use of interview techniques that is suitable for the position that the candidate is applying for. - Do a legal employee verification and confirmation of the candidate's previous organizational background/work. - Involve the department heads to the interview of the candidates that you will be hiring for them. - Ask an assessment from the people involve on the interview for the candidates.

You have to communicate TIMELY! Recruiting is a people business, not a product. So people rely on you to communicate. I have a 4-48 hour rule. For candidates who are an excellent fit, they go into my "get back to them in 4 hour" rule. For those who are rejected, they go into my "get back to them in 48 hour" rule. Automate these! That is a huge time saver and you will always respond back to them 100% of the time. It's worked for me.

Very true! A friend of mine applied for a position at this very prestigious NGO. He wrote their test and passed, got invited for an interview at their Headquarter which was in another city almost a days journey from his current city. After the Panel Interview, he was told he'd here from them. Since the Job was in that City and he can't afford to go back to his base and start returning almost immediately if he gets the job, he decided to stay for a while to receive their response. Meanwhile, the Organisation decided on a Candidate which was not my friend and offered the Job to them, but they didn't get back to my friend. My friend stayed for more than 3 months in that City, only to receive the bad news upon sending a follow up email.

These biases matter because they can profoundly impact the quality of our hires and the diversity of our teams. They might lead us to make choices that inadvertently discriminate or miss out on incredible talent. To overcome these biases, I believe in staying conscious of them and implementing strategies to counteract their influence. Unconscious AND conscious bias comes from a lack of training. In one of my former employers we had as recruiters the priviledge to draw a "wild card" in hiring. That meant we were allowed to override a "no" from another level of the recruitment process (2-4x per year), if we sensed a bias. So don't just focus on salary and bonuses. Of course, you should not offer an income lower than the market or too much higher than the market, both of which will reduce motivation to work over time. Combine and balance financial and non-financial benefits, so they see that working at your company is attractive in many aspects.

Similarly the WOW of the current company of the candidate and us is important because it will determine the time the employee will take to adapt.
