How can you avoid being pushy during a cold call?

When preparing for a cold call, it is important to consider two key factors: Firstly, what are the typical pain points of the target buyer persona? And secondly, how can I align my value proposition to these pain points? By answering these two questions correctly, the rest of the call should be much smoother sailing.

Expect rejection. Most of the time when you cold call your audience, there is a insanely high chance you will get rejected. Approach each call expecting this rejection. With this mindset you will not waiver, you will accept it, learn to embrace it. And you will appreciate the honesty of those prospects that just aren't a good fit or it's not the right timing. When you expect rejection, you reduce the pressure you place on the prospect, because you aren't expecting a result that is statistically against the odds. Sounds like this: "Sure, I've called you out of the blue, it makes sense that you wouldn't be interested. Before I let you go, is it simply that this is not a priority for you or there is genuinely 'no interest?"

The most important point to remember before cold calling someone is that there is a good possibility the person might be in a bad mood so expect setbacks but be prepared for it by staying positive. If one of them flips, be patient, listen to what they have to say, and instead of reasoning with them to appear as someone pushy maybe stop breaking your spirit and try another customer because it is just another day and another call. As someone in sales, I think the most important fact we should remember is that - Someone somewhere doing something requires that thing you are trying to pitch, FIND HIM/HER, REPEAT. Work's done, positivity intact, and the best part - commissions keep coming too.

Keep the conversation focused on value and solutions rather than pressing for an immediate commitment. Adopt an open and conversational tone, allowing space for the prospect to share their thoughts and concerns.

Focus on active listening, understand the prospect's needs, and position your product or service as a solution rather than pushing for a sale. Respect their time, be personable, and aim for a two-way conversation, ensuring a more positive and receptive interaction.

Always work on your prospects timeline, not yours. The moment you try to push an agenda that is based on your preffered timeline, you will instantly lose credibility. This all starts with the way you open the cold call. Ask for permission "Hey, it's Cam here from Pointer. I've called you outta the blue, have you got a minute and I can explain why I'm calling?" Whatever their response, respect it. The same goes throughout the call. If they say "Now isn't a good time" don't push to keep the convo going. Repsct that you interrupted there day. The best thing you can do is ask for the opportunity to connect later and let them get back to their task. They will respect you more for that.

The most important thing about Cold Calling is the right timing to do a call. In Indonesia, people dont like when strangers (your phone number isnt written on their phones), they might be excited to pick your your phone because they might be waiting for someone's interesting to call and when you introduce yourself, the next response is 'what do you want?' or even worse 'how do you get my number?' For me morning between 8am-10am. DO NOT call on lunch time! After 2pm-4pm. If you call them first and ask them what is the suitable time for them to call back. Happy Calling!

Let me explain: - Actively prospect new contacts to add to your sequences daily. - Build a "Callback" list, contacts that say you can call them back will convert at a higher rate than your cold call list. - Build and "Unconverted" list. The list of contacts that never attended or didn't convert. Can still be opportunities for the future. These are much warmer. How does this help? Well a big part of being pushy is the internal pressure for the call to convert. But the deeper your lists the less concerned you are about each call as you know you have a deep list of opportunities. It's a simple case of "Thank you, next".
