Learning from a past event is important, and outcomes must be measurable. There are various ways to evaluate the outcomes of an event, and it should not be limited to how the attendees feel or find the event. The evaluation should be conducted from other stakeholders stand point including the speakers, sponsors, exhibitors and organisers - if we achieved the goals or targets set, whether it is the amount of business transacted through the events or the numbers of successful collaborations/conversations achieved.

You can make an "after action review" and identify your strength and weakness. What went well and what need to be improve and based on these information, prepare a "checklist" to be followed for the future projects.

Definitely acknowledge all the hard work from organisers and vollies. Most will be unpaid. During the conference I like to do a video interview with the volunteers and organisers during the day and then compile that into a short video thanking them. The personal touch works really well and helps them feel included in the overall success of the event.

I am quite previledged to have worked in an Sports event management company and enjoyed throughly in whatever we did during 11-12 years of my career. Presently I am involved in Workshops and Conference management and here also it has different charm in doing so. Feedback is what I believe to be the backbone of progress. Looking into other people's perspectives and realizing what expectations you have met and the value your project has brought to those involved can never and should never be underrated. Sharing and exchange our knowledge, learnings and experience will help us to learn even more. Always engage with industry peers through industry events, forums, networking sessions or even sharing with the university students if we want to see the industry grow. Events industry is a close knitted community, I have learnt a lot from other peers’ sharing at industry events and it is encouraged to do the same in return. Sharing of our knowledge and experience will also build a stronger personal branding in the industry.

There are lots of learning takes place in each event. If its a National level event the learning is different than a Regional level event. Managing International event is bit challenging but in every step we have some wonderful moments and lessons to learn. Managing media houses and sponsorsor is quite a challenging task where we have to carefully brief our requirement and necessities.

To apply lessons learned from your event production project to future projects, it is important after each project to have an evaluation meeting with the project team and bring out three elemenst: What worked well, what did not and what needs to be improved. After such evaluation, there is a need to update the internal project process to integrate the best practices from the project. By updating the process, the team will automatically integrate the best practices from previous project when using the process for future projects.

I prefer conducting a post-mortem analysis: After completing a project, i usually gather my team together to review what worked, what didn't, and what can be improved for the next project. This mostly helps to identify patterns and trends that can be used to inform future projects.

Our events are in the open source space. We like to publish the budget on the conference website after the event for transparency. People can see exactly where the money goes. I wish all conferences did this.
