As an electrical engineer at CCNY, 1960s, we had required courses in thermodynamics, strength of materials and control system engineering. In my career I discovered the importance of these and other fields to power system design. Over the centuries, From steam engine's to turbos set generators, to our present day so called renewable sources, the second order system equations and control system theory govern the stability and regulation of speeds, power flows, frequency, voltage, MVARS and other parameters.
