The other thing is that trends changes but concepts and process don't. Once we have developed a good design sense and gained hands on experience in the field. It is not much difficult to adapt the changes. Just we need to open to the explorations and keep learning new things.

But, taste is subjective and there will be times that despite giving them other options and explaining why you think x may be better than y, they just really, really want x. In the end, you have to be able to make peace with the person holding the money having final say, or you won’t get work.

Also, maintain participation in professional development groups or activity on platforms like LinkedIn even when you don’t need the connections yet. Additionally, if a recruiter does reach out to you when you aren’t looking, take 2 minutes and respond. Refer someone else if you can, or just thank them and say you aren’t interested right now but may be down the line, so you’d like to keep in contact.

You can plan but know that many plans will change, that is just the nature of the industry especially nowadays. Keep your files digital and then you can always easily change them. I don't recommend planning too far in advance but you can have a tentative plan and know that it might change.
