I think if you start using the new tool, you may learn easier ways to design what you want. It may help you finding new shortcuts or even better ones. In my opinion, learning new things will be useful someday at least!

As a designer one must always be open to change and flexible in their approach to design tools to stay ahead in the ever-evolving field of graphic design. And by being open doesn’t necessarily mean you have to use them for the sake of it, being comfortable with them and understanding the impact that it should make to your own work stream is also super important. Keeping yourself updated about the latest design tools and industry trends through blogs, forums, and design publications and practicing them on personal projects or non-critical tasks to become comfortable with them is the key.

Depending on the nature of the problem that needs to be solved, each team member could explore a possible tool solution. When one is chosen, each could learn a different function or facet through experimentation. When the team gets together, each demonstrates to the others the features they have learned – and when one team member comes up against a challenge with a particular task, they'll know who to ask. Promotes autonomy and trust among peers, as well as a shared learning experience.

Moreover, subscribing to YouTube channels dedicated to these tools has proven incredibly beneficial. These channels often provide practical insights, tips, and real-world application examples. As I explore new tools, I find that this blend of learning from experts, engaging with the community, and staying updated through platforms like YouTube contributes to a well-rounded understanding. It's a journey of constant growth, both individually and as a design team, ensuring that we harness the full potential of these tools for our projects.

Looking back at my journey there is one moment that has always stuck out as crucial to my growth. While going through my early education I had one professor who completely molded my perspective back then, which has stayed with me up to this day. When introducing themselves the stated how many years they had been in the industry ( which in this case was over 20) and followed it up with "and I am still a student." This helped me realize that I will never know everything about my craft, but if I adapt this perspective, I will always know everything that I need.

Humble yourself! That's what I had to learn. I had to set aside my resume, my experience, and my years of knowledge, and learn my team. Even if they are no where near the level of skill you are, what you don't have yet, is their respect as a team player. EARN THAT.

Prioritize essential features relevant to your projects before delving into more advanced capabilities. It's totally okay if you and your team use one one or two functions of a tool - sometimes that's all you need.

Honestly, I would just jump right in and start working on a small project that the team is currently working on, on my own file. Being thrown in is the best way force yourself to start learning.

You can take 1000s of different courses teaching you how to use it, but it won’t make sense until you see for yourself. Experimenting in different programs is a great way to get first-hand experience. When different design or website platforms come out, I dedicate a few hours a month to testing them out for myself. If I feel comfortable with the program, I start using it for personal projects and for client ones.

Practicing and experimenting with a new design tool is not only a skill-building activity, but also a fun and rewarding one. By applying the tool to your projects or creating new ones, you can see the results of your learning and improvement, and also get feedback from your team and your clients. I am an audio visual lerner, i like working with others so i can get help how to do what i want to do. For example. How to make closed shapes in my design so i can flip positive and negative spaces or to change the size of an object relative to the entire space. Brainstorming ideas for design or practical advice on how to acheive something. I personally need to familiarize myself with the current tools that are available. I like doing a very thorough background check on the client and needs then give some suggestions. This is best acheived by meeting the client in person or omaybe on zoom. I just need to be given the chance and some time to do the work and most of all, I need the client to trust that I will search and find a solution.

Something you should always consider is that you don't have to learn every new tool that comes out—if you tried, you'd spend more time learning software than practicing your craft. I prefer to evaluate new tools to see how they could improve my current processes—if they do the same thing that my existing tools do, then I skip them and keep to my current methods. If I do decide to try out a new tool or software, I'll give myself a week to evaluate and use it within my process. If it doesn't show an improvement, then I drop it.
