1 Why is it important?

Additionally, non-profits should foster innovation and adaptation by testing and scaling up new technologies, practices, and business models that can help farmers reduce their carbon footprint and increase their income. Finally, they should advocate for and raise awareness about the benefits of low-carbon agriculture among farmers, consumers, policy makers, and other actors; communicating success stories, best practices, and lessons learned from their programs.

Non-profit programs have been developed to help farmers reduce their carbon footprint and adopt more sustainable practices. The Cool Farm Tool, created by the Cool Farm Alliance, is a web-based tool that allows farmers to measure and manage their greenhouse gas emissions, water use, and biodiversity impact. World Vision's Climate Smart Agriculture Program helps smallholder farmers in Africa, Asia, and Latin America to adapt to and mitigate climate change, while improving their food security and livelihoods. The Regenerative Organic Certification, developed by the Regenerative Organic Alliance, verifies that products are produced using regenerative organic practices. This certification aims to create a market incentive for farmers to adopt regenerative organic practices, which can reduce their carbon footprint and increase their soil carbon sequestration.
