My view is that the best buyer - vendor relationships are built on understanding objectives, values, constraints and priorities. I’ve worked with amazing tech clients who are open about their goals, challenges and desired outcomes - both on a personal level (career advancement) and business (growth, M&A, disposal etc). This approach has helped me to help them - and establish long term value for me (tech vendor) and the client.

Absolutely critical! Having an open, two way communication channel is vital to effective relationships. I’m a big fan of a structured engagement plan with multiple tiers (exec to exec, mgr to mgr etc) and a program of communication depending on the nature of the relationship. Annual, quarterly, monthly, weekly - based on need and desired outcomes. This clearly needs an open and proactive approach from both sides.
