Do not segregate uses and do not build car-exclusive road networks (arterials, cul de sacs). If moving people, not cars, is the priority, walking and cycling naturally become a common mode choice. Tie human-scale neighborhoods with high quality transit that travels in straight lines and connects neighborhood centers.
