Attending trade shows takes a different mindset from other networking events. Trade shows requires you to not be pressured in walking away with a lot of other business cards. If you are working at your table you need to be inviting to people walking by, engage and have a bit of fun. If your display is eye appealing, it is easier to invite people to stop and have a conversation. As you walk the exhibit hall stop at tables and be engaging and show interest in their display. At a networking event all you have is your smile and a card. Do not always rush to ask for a card, that should not be your goal.

Reach out to similar roles in industries that are quick to set new trends. You may think there aren't many similarities between food services and cyber security but the way the products or services are exhibited can be very similar. See what other people are doing and thinking so you don't get left behind in a business that moves very rapidly.

Stay in regular contact with your booth service provider. They are always ready and willing to show off the latest and greatest in booth tech and storytelling. Even if you're being cost-conscience, then ask about ways you can upgrade your current booth design or layout. Sometimes a little can go a long way

I think the best way for Trade Shows to continue to stay relevant and attractive to attendees is to… stop behaving like traditional trade shows. COVID wreaked havoc with the industry and that was a potentially pivotal moment for trade shows, with a lot of power built in to think about remaking the show process and experience - to become less fixed, and more NIMBLE. In both my mind and my experience, trade shows are about connection & interaction - on all levels. How do you continue to offer that in the most meaningful, engaging, productive way to a changing, evolving (& hopefully dedicated) audience, with less total waste (of energy, materials, resources, & time)? That’s the future.
