How can team members collaborate to improve time management skills?

Biggest thing, listen. You never know what you will pick up. Eye contact take in what they say. Keep notes when finished if you have to. When you can listen and take what you hear and turn it into something thats where huge growth for you and a team can grow from.

What we do on our team is we open up the floor for Brain Storming, there are no wrong answers. This usually helps get the ball rolling. Then we designate task on a platform we use called Basecamp, having a living document like Google Docs give everyone the power to make changes and work on their individual task.

Common goals and deadlines support accountability. What’s also important is having that person to support you and help you to “keep your eye on the prize.” Your team members can serve as a sounding board and provide an extra set of eye/ears that can help you to refine your work, stay on track, and make sure your goals are met. However, none of this is possible if you don’t hold yourself accountable.

In my experience, I’ve been repetitively exposed to the quote “communication is key” throughout my life- mainly in an educational setting. When it comes to large institutions, educational, professional or otherwise, it can be easy to become lost and disorganized within the chaotic cogwheels of a kinetic environment. In the professional realm, clear communication fosters effective collaboration, reduces errors, and boosts productivity. It creates a positive work environment, promotes transparency, and aligns individuals toward common goals. Ultimately, clear communication is essential for success, whether in personal relationships or within teams and organizations.

The right software can make all the difference in how a company communicates. Salesforce is one of my favorite platforms; it streamlines the company processes and allows immediate team communication through Slack.

As a professional, you need to have access to reliable and up-to-date information and data, and be able to organise, analyse and present them in a clear and concise manner. You should use tools and systems that can help you manage your time, tasks, projects, documents, communication and collaboration more efficiently and effectively. For example, you can generally use calendars, to-do lists, project management software, cloud storage, email, chat, video conferencing, file sharing, etc., while as a governance professional, you can use Diligent Entities, BodAdmin, Microsoft Planner (for compliance) etc.

Learning from one another is one of the smartest ways to improve time management skills as it provide opportunities to share information, resources, ideas and best practices, and to support each other in achieving common goals. I have been a top beneficiary of learning from my colleagues and line managers. My ability to ask questions in a very sensible manner results in getting very helpful answers and adds to my knowledge bank. By collaborating with your peers, you can learn new skills, tools or techniques that can help you manage your time more effectively. I recently learned how to manage work stress through a conversation with my manager. You can also receive and give feedback, and identify areas for improvement and development.

Sharing my workload and responsibilities. From my perspective as a corporate governance professional, sharing my workload and responsibilities has helped me a great deal as I am often faced with a lot of complex and diverse tasks and issues, such as board meetings, compliance, risk management, stakeholder engagement, reporting and disclosure. I try not to do everything by myself, but rather delegate, outsource or automate some of the tasks that are not core or critical to my role.
