How can teachers improve their networking skills to get promoted?

A good understanding of any domain and realistic goals can really help in networking. However , good communication plays a big role, it is important not only to possess knowledge but also to effectively express or share your thoughts and ideas.

Attend events and conferences related to your field, connect with colleagues and mentors, and join online teacher communities.

It is very important to have a clear Idea about what you want to achieve. Teaching industry caters to wide variety of people and skill sets. Identity what are your strengths and what new skills you need to meet your goals. Set up a continuous learning plan to meet your target skill level. It could be a relevant certification course. Attending train the trainer programs. Getting the Technical certifications. Build on training methodology, presentation skills, content development and presentation material preparation. Set a time bound and realistic goal and start working towards achieving it. Assisting and co-leading with seniors in the teaching industry will give you some boost of confidence.

Social media plays an important role in networking. My experience says that our work speaks and needs to be properly displayed for branding. Here Rapport Building plays a key role. Participating in events, joining groups of our fraternity helps to interact with different people. One must showcase his/her best skills in different platforms. Let the people judge and the truth is that the “customer is always right”.

One thing I have found out which could work for many is to develop a personal connection. A fruitful networking can happen once trust is established. One has to be reciprocating to grow in relationship. Expressing transparency and clarity of purpose behind networking is very helpful. A deeper personal connection, beyond work or profession framework will last a lifetime. During crisis(say Covid19)the greatest help and support came from those in our network.

They should be warm, communicating, approachable, add value and should be team members. They should also learn to build relationships and the major key that makes relationships work is effective positive communication.

People have different taste, habits and preferences. Our ability to co exist with these differences around us is the key in networking. Respect individual values and quality in people. Appreciate and recognise good quality in a person.
