Les travailleurs sociaux oeuvrent à la mise en oeuvre et à la bonne application des droits sociaux définis par la loi en faveur des citoyens ou autres. Ils disposent du savoir en matière sociale. Ils peuvent conseiller et informer sur les droits et les devoirs de chacun. Leur vocation n'est pas d'éduquer mais d'apporter une aide légale, matérielle et administrative aux citoyens nécessiteux. L'accès à l'éducation de qualité peut être favorisé par le travailleur social en collaboration avec l'éducation nationale à condition de ne pas créer des Guettos éducatifs mais en injectant dans chaque classe, à tous les niveaux. Les adultes doivent aussi pouvoir accéder à l'éducation. Beaucoup, citoyens fran?ais ou non, en ont besoin.

En effet, les travailleurs sociaux, de par leur proximité sur le terrain, pourraient avoir une force de proposition, afin de déterminer d'ores et déjà les cas les moins complexes où un changement de milieu suffirait à contribuer à un accès aisé à l'éducation. Par contre, d'autres cas nécessiteront un suivi pour une adaptation sociale, puis une insertion.

Les travailleurs sociaux ne servent personne. Ils servent l'Etat. Ils accomplissent les missions qui leurs sont confiées par la hiérarchie. Responsabiliser pour faire acquérir une bonne autonomie fait déjà partie de leurs missions. Le travailleur social n'est pas un assistant. Il est un aidant dans une prise de conscience face aux démarches à accomplir pour bénéficier de ses droits sociaux.
