In my experience of helping businesses with social media marketing for the past 13 years, the platforms have enabled marketing campaigns to really target much more effectively. This includes tools like Google ads, Facebook ads, Twitter ads, and the much recently improved LinkedIn ads. But it all starts on what problem/ pain point are you really solving? Then you can decide on the targeting, messaging, and copy. But you will need to decide on not only a paid media approach but also your organic approach. There is a bigger emphasis lately on organic strategies so your messaging on the organic side will need to better address your target audience or ideal client profile. Call them out in the first line to build trust and resonate.

In recent years, I've witnessed the transformative power of social platforms in revolutionizing direct sales. By analyzing social metrics for strategy optimization and employing tactics such as leveraging customer testimonials, hosting live demos, and partnering with influencers, the anticipated result includes elevated brand credibility, enhanced audience engagement, broader reach to new prospects, improved conversion rates, and ultimately, increased sales and revenue.

Combine the old fashioned AIDA-model (or an equivalent) with your sales funnel and determine what social media engagement will actually support your sales (and marketing) efforts. What is needed to transform a lead into a suspect, a suspect into a prospect, a prospect into a qualified prospect and a prospect into a (loyal) customer. Define this step by step. Get marketing AND sales involved and make this a joint effort with joint objectives, all combined in one (shouldered) action plan. Only implement social media actions when you have a clear understanding of your target audience, their pains, needs and drives, you have a clear view on the buyer personas and your social media messaging is spot on...

People buy when THEY want. Not when YOU want. Now, you want your message to be everywhere, all the time. An Omni Channel approach is best. Add in social proof for greater credibility. Engagement is everything. Especially in the public setting on each platform. But you can build much more trust and even conduct sales and business development in the DM's. This is where business is done at a deeper level and deeper connections are made. As you comment more and more publically with connections, once you take it offline, this is where the magic really happens. So as you post organic content regularly, try and engage with at least 20 people daily. Consistency is the hardest part. However, I would like to add that, based on my experiences, potential customers also react and comment on older posts and contributions on social media. It's important to carefully read through your own posts for interesting comments, especially those on older posts, and respond accordingly. This can help build an even stronger relationship, trust, and loyalty.

My favorite F-word is follow-up. Lead generation can happen on all the social platforms but until you follow up with the lead or contact or set an appointment on the calendar, you will not have an opportunity to close business and win the sale. Only then can you pre-qualify this Prospect to see if they're a good fit for you. There are plenty of tools out there like Calendly, zoom, Google Meet, etc. Be sure to have a lead generation system in place but more importantly, a lead follow-up system and sales outreach process in place. I've been so good at generating leads before I've been told to stop generating leads. True story. Is this a problem your business wants to have?

Qualifying and staying in touch with potential buyers using social media. You'll figure out who's keen to make a purchase, who needs more info, and who might not be interested. There are handy tools like Facebook Pixel, LinkedIn Lead Gen Forms, or Twitter Cards to grab their contact details and see what they do online. The aim? You notice someone has been checking out your posts regularly. Once you generate the success of your client, you can turn this into social proof a testimonial and leverage in your other social media marketing efforts. Video testimonials are more powerful than written. I would highly suggest incorporating video testimonials as part of your selling system. Many attendees also share that they will be attending the event. Build a prospect list from these posts and reach out to set up a meeting at the event. Since most people go to events for networking and business, they are open to meeting new suppliers and partners. If a prospect is going to host a session or participate in a panel, you can earn some brownie points by promoting the session and tagging the prospect. The person will be notified about the post and will notice you. It’s another easy way to build a relationship with prospects.
