I've recently discovered a new passion, participatory theatre, specifically Forum Theatre, a true social innovation. While it's been around since Boal first introduced the concept in the 1960's/70's it is truly a social innovation whether implemented in formal or community education or theatre itself. Rather than looking at the skills needed for social innovation in this case one could describe the numerous benefits of participation: increasing and practicing agency, capacity development such as team work, critical thinking, empathy, imagination not to mention the creation and practice of a new narrative exploring social and culture positions of power and the capabilities to change social norms.
