One big challenge of SOA is ensuring all services can work together, which can be technically complex. It can also be costly and time-consuming to switch from a traditional IT setup to SOA. Managing security across different services is another challenge.

It looks like a lot of people are confusing SOA with microservices architecture. "What is SOA" should be more well written. SOA is more about alignment of business than just an IT system or software. In SOA, it's not always necessary to seggragate data, have decentralized services or .....anything to do with microservices. For instance, all departments of an organization utilizing "recruitment service or function" within their organization for recruitment for their respective departments in a reusable manner, is also an example of SOA. Even in software, it's not necessary to separate services completely in SOA, one could also use a service bus. Most of the points here are challenges of Microservices Architecture.

SOA is one of my favorite EA solution patterns , but unfortunately it is simply not feasible for all use cases. Even if you adopt SOA across the whole Enterprise, there will always be a Mainframe system out there that does not conform to the concept of providing services to other systems or domains. Apply SOA where it makes sense, but be realistic in what you can change and what legacy-patterns is simply not feasible.
