BIM is a socio-technical system, underpinned through a technology-driven process for collaboration among stakeholders of a project. Revit sits at the heart of the technological side of BIM and ISO 19650 is the roadmap to implement BIM for a project. The whole idea is to bring about collaboration among stakeholders of a project for efficiency and productivity. Nevertheless, issues regarding BIM implementation include: budget for hardware and software packages, learning curve, availability of expert(s), and implementation capability. For SMEs, it would be a long leap to get all those things sorted out.

Your BIM strategy should include your scope, level, and purpose of BIM adoption, as well as your expected benefits and outcomes. BIM is a great coordination tool for builders, who use it to perform constructability studies, clash detection, and 4D modeling that will put them ahead of competition who do not use the platform. However, small and medium size companies will struggle to mee the costs of: the BIM platform (license), training of an operator, and salary for the operator, because their commissions simply don't have a budget for BIM.

Small and midsize contractors can reap the advantages of BIM in the same way any other contractor can, however, the cost of the licensing, training, and operator salary inhibit most small and midsize firms from doing just that.

Si quieres empezar a implantar BIM, te recomiendo tener muy encuenta estos procesos:: - Compromisode la persona encargada de la decisión de la implantación BIM - Número de personas que trabajarán con BIM (desde sólo abrir el proyecto hasta gestionarlo) - Softwares que utilizan actualmente y descripción de cómo es su flujo de trabajo - ?Hasta dónde querrían llegar con la implantación BIM? Ejemplo:Modelado-Coordinación- Gestión-Presupuesto-Obra-Mantenimiento o más. Por último, decidir: ?Cuánta prisa tengo para implantar BIM?
