Also, something my professor had taught me back in college, if you need a smaller file in PDF, but have images that need higher resolution to look accurate, you can do that. In addition of all I think the most beyond option in indesign is the fames, the ability to use a separated frame for every object of the design content is the ever best accessibilty, by using frames you can detect frame type which mean you can make a frames to text and another frames to images, this will help you place and replace images or text very easy, also you can use the graphic frames as a clipping masks because you can convert any path to a graphic frame , other wise the text frames can be used as a content areas , actually you should try the frames in Adobe indesign
