Honestly from my experience heat maps only give you so much. They're cool to show you an overall behaviour but don't really help pinpoint on specific issues. I think its best paired with a host of more detailed and granular report that tell you rage clicks, design breaks, failures/errors, 400's and so on.

There's many tools that let you track user clicks and generate heat maps. In the web application and SaaS software space, this feature is often included in web tools. I've had good experiences generating heat maps with Clicky, a simple and straightforward Google Analytics alternative. One additional thing to note, however, is that users with privacy blockers in their browser will often block these external analytics tools, so not all of your traffic will be reflected in your heat maps.
